Thought it was an appropriate time to bump this.

With reports coming out that Utah is likely to let Al walk, I could certainly see them taking picks and a TPE. On top of the existing rumors for Josh Smith.

Has anybody's opinion changed?

Big Al is better scorer and rebounder . Would love to see what prime Rondo and prime Big Al could do , with Rondo's passing ability , and big al's post moves !

Jeff Green does a lot of what Josh Smith can do .

Plus I want to see what Sully can develop into

Rondo
Bradley
Green
Sully
Big Al

has potential to be a 50+ win team with a good bench IMO

This

I am still a smith fan but Green's development last few months has made up for what Smith could bring here (blocks and ft% make it a wash).

Assuming KG is gone, I'd be open to Big Al. Think he'd have a spark comign back with Rondo in Boston.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I prefer Smith.  I think he'll be a better fit with Rondo.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Passing on Smith based on a 30 game sample of Jeff Green (which was an aberration compared to his entire college and pro career) is the epitome of poor decision making.

For me, I don't think the decision should be based solely on the merits of Smith or Big Al in themselves, but in the larger context of constructing a team that can contend.  What are the possibilities of acquiring another premier player after a Smith/Big Al trade?  If a follow-up move is made nearly impossible (due to low draft picks in the future, a lack of cap space, or gutting our assets) then we should pass altogether.

Finally, I don't think there's a big difference between Big Al and Smith in overall quality.  I'd probably give a slight edge to Smith.

I'd love either one, but I would prefer Jefferson.

On an absolute basis, Josh Smith.

Given Smith demands the max, and Al Jeff is decidedly not a max player, I like Big Al Jeff.

If we could nab Al on a $9-$10M per year deal for 3 years, I'd be into it. $27-30M total compared to Smith's $15M per year over 4 for $60M total.

We'd be far less athletic w/ both Al and Sully in the front court though. We'd be able to score . . .which would be a good thing.

I like Al Jefferson to play alongside KG. Rebounding and a prolific low post scorer? That would be just awesome to have despite his defensive woes, which I really have little worries about in all honesty.

KG doesn't stay if you get rid of PP, end of story, so what you suggest wouldn't be an option...

I worry of Al's fit with a PG who plays best in an uptempo system.

Smith denies demanding the max so I wouldn't be so quick to assume he's getting $16mill.

Assuming they both get paid 4 years/$48mill I think I'd have to choose Smith.

Paul Pierce is still with the Celtics last I saw. Also, KG has a no-trade contract, so that will still be hard to move regardless of Pierce being here or no.

And believe me when I say, even if Pierce is not here, while Ainge remains here, his interest will still be to compete. So the key here is moving KG, not whether Pierce is here or not.

If KG isn't here, I don't want Josh Smith, or Al Jefferson for that matter. Their salary cap space is better used elsewhere.

Why wouldn't you want Smith or Al if KG isn't here? KG is a 37 year old player with bone spurs in his ankles who will likely retire after this season.

I do agree however that Pierce and KG are not tied to the hip like others have said here.
KG staying or leaving being contingent on Pierce staying/leaving is a myth.

I swear I do not agree with everything this guy says. I've never met him! I don't even recognize the username!

But he's right as rain once again.
