I think you are missing the more obvious Laker's three way deal with Atl and Bos. Howard sign and trade to his home town of Atl, Pierce to his home town of LA to hopefully keep LA in it until Kobe gets back, and a sign and trade of Smith to Bos for around 15mil per for 4 yrs.
Of course, this only works if Howard says he isn't coming back to the Lakers which might be a real possibility.
