Neither.

Tommy Points have the same flaw as upvotes in Reddit...  folks who post an unpopular opinion that adds to a discussion will typically get downvoted for not siding with the masses.  I have a tendency to argue the unpopular opinion here... so I don't expect to ever get tommy points.  It's a credit to CB that they eliminated the possibility to give someone a negative tommy point... otherwise I'm pretty certain I'd have a negative amount.

This is a Celtic forum.  Everyone here is conditioned to love the Celtics.  You probably aren't going to get a TP for criticizing Rajon Rondo or suggesting we aren't a contender. It's not surprising that some of the most positive people here have the most tommy points.  "You love the Celtics?  Shucks, me too!... have a Tommy point!"

That and the fact that long-time posters have twice given away all of their Tommy Points in one of Roy's "How much will you wager for a Celtic title?" threads.

They are meaningless... I still give them out, but when I do I usually call it out in the thread... Telling someone, "TP... awesome post!" goes a lot further than the number tally.

Here's a TP.

You're my favorite contrarian for sure.

Shouldn't you disagree to agree about a contrarian? It just seems to be a disservice.

I always likes stars better just because I always got a kick watching how the system would organize them when Roy Hobbs was so far ahead of everyone.

Just imagine how it would look if Roy Hobbs and Roy H. were merged back together.

Earning a reputation as an astute GM in the various Celticsblog drafts tops both.

Ha.  I was just going to point out how prestigious and life-changing being a winner of the CelticsBlog draft is. ;)

You're terrible! Terrible!

Holiday/Jack
Wade/Butler
Pierce/Parsons
Bosh/Young
Vucevic/Splitter

Deepest team ever.

Don't even get me started on how this team was constructed.  Also,

Hill>Holiday - Fact not opinion
Kobe>Wade - Kobe tore his achilles just so he could pull it out with his bare hands and slap d-wade across the face with it
My SF position Sucked
West>Bosh - We'll find out for sure in the next round I think
Duncan>Vucevic - BECAUSE I SAID SO

BUT to be back on topic, I agree that the CB draft games here are by far the best way to gain notoriety/prestige.  at least in my book.

explains why we never see the 2 of them in the same place at the same time.  like Superman and Clark Kent   ;)

I honestly like getting both, but they are flawed. Lately I've seen people posting some of the most eye rolling 5 word posts just because they know it will probably earn them a cheap TP.

****I hope a mod is reading this next part below"

Two ideas:

1. Being allowed to post mass TPs in the game forum. Sometimes I might give out 20-30 a night. Doing it manually stinks.

2. Setting up a betting system, wagering our Tps. All for fun.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I prefer stars, since I lost about  400 tps when I wagered that the Celtics would beat the Lakers in the finals a few years back.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I like TP's more too. Regardless of the fact that the system is 'abused', a higher TP-ratio ultimately means, in my opinion, the poster has half a brain

Neither really.

Stars don't measure much besides posting volume.  Some people have been on here for several years but might only have a couple of stars.  Others have been on here for maybe a year or less and have the same number.

Earning a star doesn't mean much.  Some people just post for the sake of posting and maybe 80% of their stuff are one liners or add nothing to a conversation.

TPs back in the day meant that you were putting up some worthy posts that received praise from other posters.  That'd meant something.

Then the TP cliques & duplicate accounts started popping up and totally destroyed the TP concept.  Since then I haven't paid much attention to them at all although I will still go out of my way sometimes to reward good posts.

The ratio means little since as others have posted, many long time posters have lost all the TPs in the past on Celtics winning in the playoffs.

I find both pointless.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Yes, that's my feeling.

I often don't think about either. Then sometimes I'll read a good post and think, "oh yeah, let's give this person a TP".

Of course, after winning games, I think one of the funnest things is giving TPs to everyone. Sort of like a virtual high-five after a win.
