sigh. another awful trade idea. Rondo is better than Westbrook let alone sending Jeff Green and KG.
Rondo 3rd team All NBA, 1 year. Westbrook 2nd team All NBA, 2 years. Westbrook in the league a lot fewer seasons and will more than likely pick up another All NBA this year (they haven't been announced yet). Rondo is a better passer than Westbrook, but that is about it, and when you don't have anyone of note to pass to, a pass first PG is worthless. Boston needs someone like Westbrook. A guy who can take over games with his scoring especially if that guy is going to be his teams best player.
It's not just passing that Rondo does better, it's more like everything involved in running an offense. He might be "worthless" on a team full of players that can create their own shots when they need to, other than that most players will benefit from having easier shots to take. If you look at the top scorers in the league, Westbrook's at or near the bottom of the pack in terms of scoring efficiency. He's a volume shooter, it would be kind of like building your team around a (somewhat poor man's) Iverson.
I think Russ is easier to build around than Iverson. He seems less selfish, is bigger, a better rebounder, and he is far more efficient than Iverson was.
And let's not kid ourselves, very few players in history have gone for 23+ points, 7+ assists, and 5+ rebounds in a season, like Westbrook just did. Not to mention the nearly 2 steals a game.
Westbrook also has a much higher TS% than Rondo, so while his FG percentage is lower he is much better from the line and 3 PT range making up for the difference in the 2 PT5.
