So obviously I was under a rock yesterday because there was a HUGE deal about Lebron only receiving 120 of 121 votes for MVP. Turns out it was Gary Washburn, of Boston Globe, that gave his vote to Carmelo Anthony. He explains why (why he has to explain his vote, I don't know).

Quote
I voted for Carmelo Anthony based on his importance to the New York Knicks, who, if you haven’t been paying attention the past decade, have failed to be relevant
Quote
Secondly, this isn’t the Best Player in the Game award, it’s the Most Valuable Player award, and I think what Anthony accomplished this season was worthy of my vote. He led the Knicks to their first division title in 19 years.

Lebron on the vote:
Quote
"It's probably a writer out of New York that didn't give me the vote," James said during Sunday's award ceremony at AmericanAirlines Arena. "I know the history between the Heat and the Knicks. So I get it."

Well it's not like it cost him the MVP, but I get it..it's about history  ???

Poor Lebron. What should he do?

lebron masks his insecurity through a false sense of egocentric narcissism

So Washburn's standard for MVP voting is how bad has the guy's team been the previous 20 years?

I guess that's one way to make repeat winners less likely...

I disagree with Washburn but I can see where he's coming from.

I think the problem is that MVP is essentially equated to/shorthand for 'Best Player of the Season,' which was Lebron. He had one of the greatest regular seasons in league history.

If they make it that far, I'll root for the Knicks over the Heat, but there's no way 'Melo is even in the same stratosphere.

Pretty much.

Melo/CP3/Durant all would have been fine in my eyes getting some first place votes. Right guy still won in the end.

LeBron is going to start losing MVPs because people don't want to give it him anymore, just like the Rose season.

Agree, People will get tired of it and especially when it's an "outcry" when he doesn't get it unanimously. I don't personally agree with Gary's vote, but his vote didn't have to go to Lebron either.

I agree but not with the player he chose. It was like in 08' KG should have been the MVP. His numbers weren't huge but you take him off the Celtics, Do you think we even sniff a ring? Or make the greatest turnaround from a record of 24 wins to 66? KG was robbed of his 2nd MVP in 07-08.

Might be interesting to see if Lebron can win MVP nomination if he plays for New Orleans or Washington

That's a pretty crazy vote by Washburn in my opinion.  Melo isn't even in the same stratosphere as James.

He won it in Cleveland, so yeah he could.
