Let's rebuild while contending at the same time.

Trade Pierce to Utah in a S&T to bring Al Jeff back to the Celtics.

Lineup
Rondo
Bradley
Green
KG
Big Al

While Al is not good at defense, the system coached by Doc and KG could mask his flaws. Also, this puts us into contender status by fixing our offense (makes it more efficient by having a low post scoring big as a first option) while KG would be spelled by Brandon Bass off the bench. It's a team that could absolutely contend with Miami due to the fact Miami does not have a legit center, KG could match up with Bosh, and we would finally win the rebounding battle convincingly.

Also, I previously suggested Samuel Dalembert as a S&T option with Bass or Lee.

Full Lineup

Rondo/Barbosa/TWill
Bradley/Terry/Lee (depending on S&T)
Green/(free agent)/Lee (depending on S&T)
KG/Sully/Bass (depending on S&T)
Al Jeff/Dalembert/Wilcox

Someone tell me that lineup can't make it to the finals. We could match up with any team in the East. The hardest part would be convincing KG to stay even though Pierce leaves. Even if he decided to retire, we still have Sully as our starting PF, making us a very good team that could get past Miami due to rebounding and inside play.

Also, I'm not sure of the buyout rules, but if we S&T Paul to Utah for Al, and Utah then buys out his contract, isn't he eligible to sign back to the Celtics? That way, he could play off the bench or start in limited minutes again.

To me, you either rebuild or you contend. You can't have it both ways.

Edited to Reload. Either way, it's definitely a contender

Haha fair enough. Hope he does something to really help this team.

If you get rid of Pierce then KG is gone.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

That's what I'd rather see, but if we are gonna let those 2 go, might as well get some value for Pierce

KG will just get older and less effective. Al Jefferson is NOT a legit center he is a PF pushed into the Center role because of Utah's lineup. Bosch is in his prime and KG nor Big Al can guard him. No one can guard Lebron. Our PG has no consistent offense and no desire to play defense. Green is solid but isn't PP, especially at his prime. There is no way that lineup CONVINCINGLY wins the rebound battle. That is still a mediocre rebounding lineup. That is a worse scoring second unit than we have right now.

That lineup is so far from a contender that it isn't funny. 7th or 8th seed at best. Not interested.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Millsap is a better fit for us. He also owns the Heat every time they play- they're forced to put Lebron on him and that would leave Green to have a field day.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

How is Millsap a better fit?

Jefferson provides more length and is the legit center we need. Millsap would be another in the line of undersized bigs that we run out there.

This team had a problem getting high percentage shots, Big Al's brand of post scoring would be more helpful than Millsap's midrange jumper heavy game.

To those who think Big Al is actually a power forward playing out of position and not a center: He was a Pf for us because his body had not fully developed. Now he is bigger, stronger and a legit center.

That being said I don't see a way in which we add him without Pierce and KG retiring first. The Jazz aren't the type of contender that Pierce would put over the top, so I don't see him being dealt there (same deal with KG)
