Doesn't surprise me... if KG retires like we expect him to, this team is going to have an extremely tough time even making the playoffs.  They were dreadful defensively anytime KG sat.  The difference was absurd.

Also, Rajon Rondo is 6-9 months away from even running... let alone being ready to play basketball.  Who knows when and if he'll be back next season.

Definitely makes the most sense to go full-blown tank mode.  We aren't going to be contenders any time soon... 2014 draft is looking epic.  That's our best and only hope of landing a franchise player (Rondo isn't the type of talent you build a contender around and he'll be 28-29 years old by the time he comes back)... No sense in keeping Pierce if we're going to be in the lotto for the foreseeable future.

Doubtful we can get anything of value for him.  I'm assuming we'll just waive him at this point and let him join whatever contender he wants to play for.  He'll be 36 years old next season.

Rondo could've played in the first-round. He looked healthy to me. He even took jump shots during pre-game practices during a regular season game. They decided to not activate him and ruled him out for season. I expect him to start in October/November.
Dude there was just a report last week that said he's 6-9 months away from even jogging.  Don't know what you're talking about.

Really?  Where?  That would be significant (and bad) news if that were the case.

I don't trust Dickerson's sources, but I do think we've seen Pierce play his last game in green.  If true, that sucks.

For someone like me, who became a Celtics fan in the early 00s because of Paul, this will be really tough to swallow... I'd give everything to see Pierce retire a Celtic, along with KG.

Also sucks that his performance last night was so disappointing... Wish I could have a better last memory from him...  :'(

And he did finish...

Well, if Paul is gone, I expect KG to retire or be traded this summer.

Dickerson's clueless.

But I agree with Roy. I think Pierce has played his last game, Garnett will retire and it's back to 2007.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Is there a link to that? I thought they were expecting him back before then.

This is patently false. Total recovery time following surgery is about 6-9 months for an ACL tear. Ricky Rubio blew out his ACL and LCL last March and returned to play 57 games this year. Iman Shumpert blew out his ACL and had a meniscus tear last April and played 45 games this year and been stellar in the playoffs. Adrian Peterson blew out his ACL and his MCL slightly was back to his normal dominant self in less than 9 months.

Rondo tore his ACL only. He was walking on it without crutches for weeks before the surgery. It wasn't nearly the injury of the above three mentioned athletes. Rondo had surgery in February. My guess is he is back for the season opener and back to being Rondo athletic by the New Year.

there will be a million rumors  about KG , DOC and Paul....... they will change their minds a 1000 times too.....as will DA......

It will be a good while before anything shakes down.

I suspect , that the three above mentioned are all waiting to see  WHAT ,  when , how DA will handle the Return of Rondo  , how he is progressing,  will he be back (not traded)....

I personally think ...if DA can get a GOOD BIG and still bring Rondo back ......maybe they would rerun it again.

Pretty much up to DA ..to set the table for them to return or not.

I'll believe Pierce has played his last game here when Danny trades him. Until then, Pierce and KG are Celtics.

BTW, does anyone know when the last time one of Dickerson's tweets predicting the future actually came true?

From the Boston Globe on April 29th:

Rondo is expected to return sometime early next season, but his rehabilitation is in the early stages after tearing the ACL Jan. 25 at Atlanta.

Quote
“Every ACL surgery they say you can start running in about 4-6 months [after surgery],” he said. “I think that’s when I’ll start running. That’s in the textbook of ACL rehab. I don’t know how long training camp is from my surgery. I get in between 6-12 months.”

His surgery happened Feb 13, 3 months ago.  So he's 1-3 months from running according to a report from this week, not 6-9 months from jogging.  All news on his surgery continues to indicate that the Celtics expect him back towards the beginning of the season, if not training camp.  There's a chance it is longer, every ACL tear is different, but the odds seem to indicate a return at the beginning of next season.

Listen, I have studied Orthopedic surgery on the internet and I have practiced molecular surgery on grapefruits. Rondo will be ready. Also, Ms. Chloe, the Jamaican psychic in prison channeled that Pierce is going to be bought out so we can use more of the salary cap. Don't worry. I got your back.

I do not see any sense on trading PP. If he sign for 3 seasons more for veteran contract, is good for both parts.
