It's time. I don't want it to be, but I don't want to be the hawks. I'd rather have hope and be terrible than know the team will be nothing more than another team's  warm-up for the ECF.

Thats about all most teams are and are gonna be for a while  long as LBJ , Wade and Bosh stay together.

The Heat will march right though Indy like butter.

for all the people saying we will be the bocats , that is such a bad argument .

What about Indy, GSW, Memphis and OKC  , who all built their contenders from the lottery

yes some teams make back picks , but what makes you think Danny will

He drafts so good!

Big Al, Tony Allen, Rondo , Sully , Green

with the position he has picked from , he has done a great job drafting

I have no doubt Ainge would hit big on a top 5 pick

heres the thing. Everyone is bypassing losing Rondo like it is nothing...this team with Rondo(especially in the playoffs) is a total different beast

Rondo is the celtics best player currently. Pierce/KG were/are meant to be complimentary pieces. get open, hit big shots. without him they are forced to carry the team which they no longer can.

Are people on here not seeing that pp and kg can still play but need to be in lesser roles?  Again we need a coach like popovich that can see this and implement it.  Don't matter if we keep em or lose them we still have a coach that has no clue how to manage a roster

ok so let's say they take smaller roles ....

How exactly does that help us ?

They are tying up so much money that we don't have any chance to add pieces to this team .

Say they aren't # 1 or 2 options anymore , neither are Green and Rondo .

Is PP going to somehow gets his legs back for next playoffs where he will be clutch again ?

We need to let the old guys go

I love everything they gave to this franchise , but not really a fan of watching them get older and older .

Don't waste Rondo and Greens career because we love watching the old guy , we need to add elite talent around Rondo and Green

Bringing back KG and PP only prolongs the process of contending ( legit contending ) .

The "thing" is that even with Rondo we still cannot beat the Heat. Rondo IS a complimentary player on a championship team, he isn't THE guy. He needs a consistent scorer next to him, now if thats JG or not that remains to be seen.

If KG and PP leave. We'll be so bad we'll auto-tank. No major FA will come here when your top two players leave. It appears Rondo will miss most of next year.

So that leaves Green and Sully to try to carry this team to the playoffs. Bradley stinks to high heaven.

We were one of the worst defensive teams in the league with KG off the floor this year and PP is our no 1 option.

Enough is enough. I hope to God that the rebuilding process begins this offseason. We've been doing the entire "make one more run next year" thing every year since 2010. At some point, they have to make a decision that this team can no longer be considered a viable playoff team yet alone a viable title contender.

I love KG. I Love Pierce. I thank them for your service and all the good memories, but it's time to move on. If the best they can be is a low seed playoff team and get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round, then I dont get why people would be happy with that.Do you guys enjoy losing to the Knicks and the Heat in the playoffs? I'd rather the Cetics not make the playoffs at all than get in and know they legitimately have no shot at doing didly squat in the post season.

I hope Pierce/KG retire this offseason. Time to move forward with Green/Rondo/Sullinger/Bradley. They probably wont be very good but maybe it could net us a lotto pick and get lucky and pick the next Durant. Worst case is they acquire some young assets and ship them off for a better player. Either way, it would be a step in the right direction.

For what it's worth, I think we'd all accept a 'bad' team as long as they were entertaining.

I'll be unhappy if the team loses its defense-first orientation.  I would hate to see the Celtics become a bad team with an above-average offense and horrible defense like the Sacramento Kings.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I'm not looking forward to losing 50+ games per year again.
I'm not either, but I think at this point you need to commit to either giving Rondo the pieces around him to compete, or doing the total tear down. I'd much prefer to build around Rondo now than suck for 3 years hoping to get a player as good as Rondo + 1 or 2 more like him.

I completely agree.

I honestly think we can rebuild a team as good as the one we have now in a few years.

I agree with the OP.

I am tired of being disappointed every year in the playoffs since 2008.

I am also tired of regular season games being taken off and the switch being flipped on and off.

I am ready for a new direction and ready for a new team.

For those who think a team of Pierce, KG, Rondo, Sully, Bradley and Jeff Green are going to contend next year, you will be sorely disappointed!

Haha I hope you're ready to not contend for a good 5 to 7 years then. Take a good look at the cavaliers. That's what we'll be when we "rebuild".

I don't know about that. I agree you have to fall in the cellar before you soar in the NBA again. But if the Celtics play their cards right and stop running an old KG/Pierce into the ground, I think they can return to the promise land sooner than you think.

And re the Cavs, I don't know about you but I sure wish we had a player as talented as Kyrie Irving and we don't.
