2013 Mock Draft v4.0 6/6/13

1. Magic - Burke = Still have him being chosen #1.  Just a combination of need, skills, clutch and near championship under his belt, will be too hard for the magic to pass up.
V.1 comment: Magic have talent all over the court. But need a leader, a player to put it all together. Can't get better than Burke who is also a pg
2. Bobcat - Mclemore = Has game + potential , went far in the tourney and is still very young. An upgrade to Henderson. Henderson will either be traded for assets or kept as a 6th man down the line.
3. Cavs - Noel = Acl injury brings him down to #3. Cavs need help everywhere. Risky but could end up being the best player drafted
4. Suns - Porter
5. Pelicans - Oliadipo
6. Kings - Muhammad
7. Pistons - Mcollum
8. Wizards - Bennett
9. Wolves - Zeller
10. Blazers - Caldwell Pope
11. 76rs - Plumlee

Celtics - Saric =  You have to watch the 2012 hoop summit game from the beginning to the end to know that Saric was the real mvp of the game. 13 pts, 14 rbs, 5 assists.  He was better than 90 percent of the usa team players. Unfairly he was coming in with some pro experience and already a summit game the year prior under his belt. Shot needs to be more consistent, but his handles, penetration, rebounding and especially passing is top notch.  He was directing/helping guys around the court like a QB. His size, game reminds me of Magic Johnsons. There is a pretty good chance he gets picked much earlier but luckily for the celts , he can't come and play until 2014 that may turn off alot of teams.

2012-2013 summit games showed that there are top notch talent around the world outside of the US. Both year world teams won and were  better at team passing , less turnover prone and better defending. From the  2013 game, for the USA team Randle was the best player. Has Chris Webber written all over him. Just bulldozed to the baskets several times and looked unstoppable like a freight train. Parker was ok and Vonleh , Harrison need work. Wiggins played both games and i can see where the hype comes from relating to his athleticism and quickness. But his shooting is not as special as i thought it was.  His finishing capabilities the same. He missed quite a bit of shots and didn't make many easy passes for his teammates.  As he improves his body, experience, i can see the #1 label for 2014 but he doesn't look like the sure "next" thing from Lebron.  It wouldn't surprise me if Randle actually was the best out of the 2014 class.

I really don't think Burke is worth a top pick. He played great in the tournament, but I don't think he projects into being an all-star at the next level. At the same time I'd probably move up McLemore, and I really like Porter and Noel - even with the injury.

The kid CAN SCORE from anywhere and from different kinds.

It does need some time, but he has the most potential to be a star out of anyone in the lottery.

There is no consensus #1 this year period. Noel for all the glamour he has with his shot blocking, really didn't lead KU to a top record. Not reliable on the offensive end and doesn't have the best hands (on top of his injury). Mclemore had a very bad tourney overall. There are questions about his mental makeup already.

Burke on the other hand did everything possible to make himself #1 worthy. Yeah he is not that athletic and a little undersized, but so is Chris Paul. Lots of good pg's are undersized and i think the nba and fans are too enormed with oversized/overathletic guards these days. Bottom line is most cannot play the way Burke can. He basically carried Michigan on his back at times , and imagine what he can do being surrounded by better calibre players and vice versa??  Orl also needs a pg badly. Someone who can lead the team and make passes to their young but talented staff. Nelson is either done next year or coming off the bench.

If you have the #1 and you think Burke is the best on the board, then I think you trade the pick.  I think you can get more value by trading the #1 overall than you can by drafting and developing Trey Burke.

This draft from about 10-30 is decent.  Some good players will be available in the teens, and there will be a pile of (in my opinion) pretty safe roleplayers still on the board late in the first round. 

But in that top 10, the draft is a nightmare because there are no logical, obvious picks.  The safe picks lack elite upside; the players with star-level potential are risky.  Wouldn't want to be a GM in that situation.

McLemore = OJ Mayo ??

McLemore is much more of a team player than Mayo.  Unselfish and won't take a ton of bad shots.  On the flip side of that, Mayo will always try to make an impact on the game while McLemore will vanish, sometimes for entire games at a time. 

If there's a Mayo comp in this draft, I'd say it's Shabazz Muhammad.

I cannot remember the last time a first overall was traded after the lottery but before contracts were signed, but if the Magic get that first pick, this might be the year.

They could take the risk on Noel, or take Mclemore, but every single top 10 team outside of the Kings, Pistons, and TWolves desperately needs Noel, and the TWolves could probably welcome Noel and look to trade Pekovic after the fact.

The Magic should trade down, or out potentially. Noel and Harrington for Dragic and their 1st maybe.

I definetly agree that Burke has above average starter potential but that's also at the most stacked position in the league. He may be as tall as Chris Paul but he's not built like him and even CP3 gets bothered by larger defenders.

I can't see Burke being taken #1 overall unless the fit is perfect but the only team that would make sense is The Magic who could easily trade down to get him later in the draft.

The rest of your mock is good until The Euro arms race between 15 and 18. Really hope we don't take Saric he doesn't look like a player that projects to be anyothing other than a "3 and d" role player at the next level and I think we could do better.

Isiah Austin, Gorgui Dieng or even Jamal Franklin would be better picks but me I'm holding out all hope for Giannis Adetokuuunnnbooo!

Austin is going back to school , so he is not an option.

I got a hold of a game where Saric plays from start to finish, and he is a very very good player. You have to watch his "impact" in the game.  He is a pg for his team bc basically he is the best ball handler and passer the team has. On a celtics team, he may take on the Paul Pierce role and at times be the one bringing up the ball than Rondo. Make things confusing for opposing teams.

Not just that he can dribble and pass, but he competes, dives for balls, boxes people out etc. Again excellent height at 6'10 for a sf, but doesn't have blow away quickness or athleticism. Not sure how to exactly describe the way he plays , but its skilled nonetheless. Small but recent clip.

I like Noel but he is no Anthony Davis. You have to do more than Block shots at an absurb rate. Noel doesn't bring alot else to the table, not yet anyways.

I also don't disagree that the draft class's top end isn't on par with the Davis led class from last season.

But I do disagree about Noel's potential. I don't think you can compare him to Davis, but I don't think he should be relegated to on par with Biyombo status. Noel has game-changing potential as a defender, a skill that should translate well in the NBA, and his lack of polish offensively isn't an indicator of his lack of instincts or bball iq on the other end. He's expected to make a full recovery and that implies he's going to be able to preserve his athleticism.

And that athleticism is special. Better than Ibaka's or Davis's, although that's a good comparison for him. He will change the game just by being in it as a defender, which is much more rare asset than a guard like Trey Burke (not a knock on Burke, but we're in a guard renassiance right meow). Noel has also shown a great work ethic and motor on the defensive end, which when exposed to the NBA training machine could very well turn him into a very, very special player. Offensively yes he's weak, but he's so athletic, and a gifted finisher, he's got a ton of room to grow there. It's unlikely that he's going to develope into a special player offensively, but a 16 and 10 player is well within his reach.

He should be the overall first pick, unless some team absolutely falls in love with Mclemore, which would be unwise.
