Honestly, I've been begging for this all series long.
Jeff Green, Paul Pierce and Avery Bradley all struggle to hold on to the ball under constant defensive. They can handle pressure fine in spurts, but when it's constantly on they start to lose composure and turn the ball over.
With Rondo our and Barbosa gone, the only other key guy we have who can handle the ball under pressure is Terry. He's actually done a really good job (only 0.8 TOPG this series and 3:1 Ass/TO) but we need Terry's scoring...so we really need someone who can relieve him and handle the point under pressure.
I've been pushing to get Williams more time in this series because of a number of things:
1. His size and athleticism - his size can give a real advantage against NY's smaller backcourt, while he's still agile enough to defend the Knick's quickest guards and big enough to switch onto guys like Smith and Carmello if need be
2. His composure - He reminds me a lot of Marquis Daniels in that he does such a good job of remaining composed under pressure and controlling the tempo of the game. He never seems to allow the defense to get in his head...he always looks smooth and under control regardless of whether he's running the break or walking the ball up.
I really feel game 1 and 2 were winnable games that were lost due to mass turnovers, most of those coming as a result of our primary ball handlers (Pierce, Green, AB) struggling under pressure.
We really needed someone comfortable at bringing the ball up to keep the turnovers down, and the Terry/Williams combination at PG has worked extremely well.
If we play hard defense (as we have all series) and also control the ball well, I think we are very hard to beat.
