Yeah, it's a gamble for Doc, agreed. Personally I'd absolutely take the gamble.
I look at these things like this. You put the kid in, see how he does. If he's holding his own or excelling, let him keep running. If he's struggling right away, pull him out, try him a little later for a couple minutes.
I don't see how anyone could end up pinning a possible loss on Doc for playing TWill for 3 minutes early in the game...
I always thought Phil Jackson was great at that. He'd throw a guy in there you wouldn't expect to see and at critical times. And if the guy was doing well, he might end up playing an entire quarter - I loved that about Jackson.
if someone had it going, even a marginal player, he'd run with it...If not, he'd pull them, try 'em again later...
