Just sitting here watching Game 5 of the Grizzlies-Clippers game, watching Keyon Dooling put in effective minutes as a backup point guard, watching Tony Allen play great defense and battle for rebounds—and wishing we still had both.

Watching Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, an old-school big-man duo who are good on D, on the boards, and on offense in the low post—and wishing we had a pair like that.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Does Gasol make us a contender?

I'd think so, with a healthy roster (Rondo).

I think either Gasol would, and I'd take either one (or both  ;D ).

Just looking at Memphis' big-man rotation: not only do they have Gasol and Randolph, but Ed Davis and Darrell Arthur—pretty solid four-man rotation at PF and C.

Yeah, and they're wishing for a Paul Pierce and a Kevin Garnett.

Ha! Yeah, I suppose most teams are.

Ed Davis...he seems like a good guy to go after. Young, rebounding big with a good skill set.

The Memphis are a well built team.

Keep in mind they've been putting that team together since at least 2007, though.  They weren't a contender with that group until 2011 at the earliest.  Gives you a sense of what the Celtics are in for.

2 seasons ago it's very possible they would have won the title if Rudy Gay didn't go down.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

Dooling couldn't resign with the C's this year because he was bought out.

Double disagree. A heart and soul back up point guard, which we lack. And the grown up, veteran, better at defense version of Avery Bradley which we also greatly need.

Without question he would. Imagine being able to throw a starting lineup of

Rondo
Bradley
Pierce
KG
Gasol

on the floor with Green, Sully, and Terry coming off the bench. That is one scary intimidating team.

I'm pretty sure his point was that while we would probably be slightly better, those two players aren't going to make Boston a contender and probably don't lead to a victory over the Knicks, so there is no real difference by adding them at the end of the day.

I understand why Danny let Tony go, and I supported that decision at the time.  In hindsight, though, Tony sure would have looked good on this team the last couple seasons.

On the "what if" theme, imagine how different the NBA would be if Danny had drafted Marc Gasol over Gabe Pruitt.  If Chris Wallace is to be believed, that would have meant that Pau doesn't end up in LA, and we'd have the starting big man we've been desperately looking for.
