Because Rondo is a Celtic, and because it's not really up to him (at least while he's under contract).

He comes across to me as a pretty loyal guy, and a VERY particular guy. If he likes his boys on the Celts, and the environment and tradition of the team, he'll want to stay.

I don't envision that much of a rebuild anyways. We've got good young players and PP and KG will be here next year to win a championship. So the year after, you got Jeff averaging 22, Rondo 17/11, Sully 14/9, Avery 12, Lee 12, Fab Melo 6/6 .. . . Celts will still be a .400 or .500 team. T-Will will probably by back up Center if Doc is still coaching.

Gosh, some of the stuff debated around here is idiotic.
The presumption, based on zero, absolutely nothing, that Rondo wants out. The armschair GM'ing that has no basis in reality, the medical opinions by non-doctors being thrown around, etc etc ad nauseum. Come on now. Hell, the idea of what this team may be going forward is so wildly offbase the majority of the time. I just don't get it.

Just because Rondo is under contract, that doesn't mean he won't force a trade if he is unhappy. He is a multiple time all-star, and already has a ring. He is a veteran at this point. So why would an established veteran want to be in a rebuilding situation? In todays NBA, all it takes to get traded is to complain publicly. Looks like Eric Gordon will be the next example of a disgruntled player who gets traded even though they are under contract.

You have zero evidence that Rondo would get disgruntled and try to force a trade. It's just wishful thinking on your part.

way i see it danny's already started the rebuild
2 young all stars  8) yes i said 2, jeff green and rondo
kg's salary will go after a big time free agent (he is retiring)
paul will move to 6th man or danny might move him which i'd hate to see but he is due big$$$
sully, bradley, crawford, shav, lee can all come back
terry and bass?  if bass was cool coming off bench for sully then i'd keep him, he really is a sub and we've asked a lot of him to be a starter
good core, youth and the addition of a few free agents keeps this team in playoffs

I am not sure we will be that far under the cap.

Why doesn't anyone mention this? If Pierce, and KG retire or move on, why exactly would a 27 year old Rondo want to be a part of a rebuilding team? Also, why would management want to have Rondo as part of a rebuilding situation knowing he might become disgruntled with all of the losing that might take place until the team returns to relevance?
Because he's under contract and his getting paid? That's not exactly a musical wish there.
but he only has 2 years left and next year he probably won't be close to himself.

To be honest I wouldn't blame Rondo for leaving after some things I've heard from the fans here and on other sites. I don't really expect him to stay for a rebuild if we decide to really blow it up. Although, I think Green, Bradley, Rondo, and Sully is a good enough team that he would stick around

He has good relationship with Doc, would officially be his team, seems to have good relationships with yiunger guys, doesn't really seem to have strong relationships with other stars, uber competative and seems like he would be a more loyal type along the lines of kg who's pretty much been his mentor

I've been mentioning it, which is why I've been suggesting possible trade destinations for him. It depends on how we do the rebuild though, as Who said. I think Rondo + Lee to the Jazz for Al Jeff/Milsap and picks is pretty good. Another is Rondo for Asik and Houston draft picks (they have valuable picks). Because of Rondo's contract, it'll be hard getting equal value for him.

why in the world are so many people interested in having al jefferson back?
let that sentiment go.
and i also don't see the point of trading rondo for al. it makes no sense...you're not getting as much 'talent' back.

in the meantime,  I think Rondo would possibly stay. could build his legacy. Make him the man in charge. I think if we got some more talent from somewhere else, like a good big who's underrated, we would do well. I still think a Rondo/Jeff core would be good. Let's also not act like AB isn't tons better with a Rondo. If you're so into vets, I say keep a guy like Terry...maybe even get Jason Collins back...or Steamer or something. I think Shav can contribute a lot more than what he has. Sully will (hopefully) be back.

We'll probably continue to be a 6-8 seed (iN THE EAST), but I think we'll be okay. And eventually we would land a good star.

I wouldn't mind Jefferson back, but not for Rondo.  There is no point in that.  Bring Jefferson in would be to play with Rondo and still compete.  I mean if Jefferson was leaving and Utah wouldn't mind a guy like Jeff Green, I would certainly do something like that.  I'd even throw in Bradley if I had to.

Jefferson

for

Green, Bradley, Melo

Boston then uses the MLE on a back-up SF and with Jefferson, KG, PP, Lee, and Rondo would be a pretty good team especially with Crawford, Terry, Bass, and Sullinger on the bench.  Not sure they could beat the Heat, but would certainly have a much better chance.

I will see first how healthy is gonna be Rondo after surgery. Remember Yao Ming story...

At least if you're gonna try to compare another athlete, pick a similar injury.

Here's one: Adrian Peterson. Same MD did their surgery as well. .

As was mentioned above, a team with Rondo, Lee, Terry, Bradley, Green, Sullinger, Pierce and maybe even Melo, plus assuming something decent is brought in for KG slot, isn't horrible, maybe a fringe playoff team.

I think Rondo would play hard but he still might get traded whether he wants to or not.  It would certainly be his chance to take his game further.  I would be surprised if he bacame a "trade me" problem.

If we get someone reasonably serviceable in place of KG (defense and rebounding at least) that's a better cast than the group Rondo took to the ecf last year.
