I hope not.

He will not. He knows that he has ONE MORE STAND next year with Rondo back.

Don't KG.
::)

Roll your eyes all you want. This is a different team with Rondo on the floor. And I believe he knows that and he will play for one more year.

KG at worse can still patrol the defense and provide mid range shots to stretch the floor. If we get some help for him so he doesnt have to be the last line of defense, it will save his energy a lot.

A 37 year old Garnett is still better than a lot of PF's in the league. And he has one more year in the contract, he can just finish that up.

I got your back bro

2 years left in his contract I think.

Hope so, no more dragging this out. Go out while he still has some dignity left. Would have liked to see both KG and PP go out on near-top after last season's magical run, but I guess it's too late now.

Rondo is coming back from a season ending ACL injury.  That's not small.  As intelligent as Rondo is, he still depends a LOT on his elite athleticism for his dominance.  There is no guarantee at all that he will go back to being the dominante (at times) player he once was, and even if he does there's no telling how long it will take for him to shake off the rust.  Could be old Rondo immediately (Chris Paul has come back from many an injury) but he could also go the Penny Hardway / Brandon Roy) route...you just don't know.

KG came back this season with all of this promise of a talented and deep roster, put himself through all of that grind again for another run.  Put faith in the talent round him.  Where did it get him though?

There has to be a point in time where a guy like KG eventually decides that as much as he loves to play, it's time to cut his losses and accept that he probably wont get another ring.

Last year he had just come off a deep run to the ECF after averaging 10/20 through the playoffs and giving a vintage KG performance in a season where his got by injury free. He would have had the fresh thought in his head of how close they were to one more ring, just 5 minutes away.  Even despite this he still strongly contemplated retirement.

This year he's looking at a first round elimination in 4 games after struggling with injuries through what has been an up-and-down season.  It's a much less promising, and there are far fewer amazing memories from this season to help inspire and motivate him.

I truly hope he does return, but I'm not confident given all that has happened this season.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I don't know, but I hope so.

He should've retired last year.

It's like people want to watch him play until he flat-out sucks.

We're witnessing an all time's great final game this sunday

If he's really an all time great, he shall will us to a victory and many more afterwards!

18

He's done more than enough to be an all-time great. Much respect for KG. He brought back celtics pride after the dark years of the ML Carr, Pitino, Jim Obrien eras.

Obviously he's one of the best players to ever touch a basketball, but no. He will not let the Knicks beat us next game. Just can't happen.

Personally, I think KG is a top-2 PF, ever.

This series is just about over and done with with.  Face facts.  This isn't the Kevin Garnett of 2003/2004 or even the one from 2008-2012.  Father Time has finally caught up with him and basically Pierce, too.  I think he hangs it up after this season and if so, I think Pierce will follow suit.

This organization needs to get this re-building train rolling and now.

I'd rather suck for a few years than keep making the post season only to be bumped in the 1st or 2nd round.  It's time...

Well, Duncan is most likely going to be playing next year, when he turns 38.

"KG would be 38 and so he would be too old to play" is not a valid excuse because Duncan will be the same age.

I wish pops was our coach. At least, he can manage his rosters greatly.

We are stuck with KG and PP until they call it quits. Deal with it. No teams would want them with the price of their contracts.

The best Danny can do is to retool. I would like this team still intact, but different rotations. PP and KG should not be the main option in offense. We need someone who can help KG in anchoring the defense. He just can't carry it alone anymore. Both of them would still be a good role player on a contending team.

Just saw on Realgm for the celtics twitter feed that " Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, and KG just had a very long talk behind closed doors." Wonder what that means.

The question I have is what happens to the Celtics pay roll if KG and Pierce ( I think they will go together) both call it a career?

I don't think anyone knows but KG. They said the same thing last year and he came back this year.
I do know that KG and Paul being 1a and 1b are way over and done with.

i don't think even KG himself knows yet.

Would love to know what that meeting is about.  They passed the torch to Rondo long time ago.  This is a sad end to two of the greatest.  I will soak it all in after Sunday's game

This is shaping up to be a sad end for KG and Pierce, and I hate to see that, and I hate to see this era end ... but it has to. Now. Even if KG and Pierce get lots of rest in the offseason and come into camp in the best shape of their lives, they'll still be all banged up again by this time next season. Their bodies just can't handle the grind anymore, and they, as players, can't handle the load anymore.

Players aren't entitled to win in this league. Just because KG and Pierce won a ring together in 08, it does NOT mean they were guaranteed another before they went out. Especially with their advanced age. Reality check please

Hate to break it to ya buddy, but a 37 year old KG with bone spurs in his ankle will not carry this team to a victory.
