It's an utter disgrace that all of these people would bag out a guy who has been our 4th best player all season long, and has beem a winner his entire career. Terry has earned a championship ring and he's hit enough big shots in his career to earn some respect. To add to that he's been the only guy after PP, KG and JG to give us anything even resembling consistent offensive prodcution (he's the only other guy scoring in double figures over the season).
Guys like Bass and Lee have been horrendous through the entire season bar maybe 10 games, yet still people give the respect and defend them. Hell even Crawford (despite his histroy and ability to scare me every time he touches the ball) doesn't get the degree of disrespect on here that Terry gets.
Terry has always been a guy who performs in the clutch. Like the regular season, he has been the only player outside of Green/Pierce/KG to give us any kind of solid production in these playoffs (ouside of game 1, where he struggled). It would have broken my heart to see this team get swept in what may well be Pierce and KG's last seasons as Celtics, and it's largely thanks to Terry that they still have a chance to put up a fight and eiher come back and win, or at the very least keep their dignity and go down fighting.
To all of the people who have undeservedly hated on Terry all season, shame on you.
I can understand supporting him but it's absurd to deny the fact that he's terribly underperformed all season (his clutch numbers that you brought up are WAY down) and has been terrible for 3/4 of this series.
I like Jet but I'm taking into account the whole of 85 games
Terribly underperformed?
In his championchip season in Dallas he averated 18 points per 36 minutes as the team's second scoring option after Dirk.
This year he averaged 13.5 points per 36 minutes as Boston's 4th scoring option after Pierce, KG and Green. When Rondo was there Terry was 5th on that list. It's blatantly obvious that giving sombody THAT much of a reduced role in the offense is going to see their numbers drop significantly no matter who it is.
To put things into perspective Terry's FG% in his last three seasons in Dallas was:
43.8%
45.1%
43.0%
This season for boston he shot 43.4% - dead on par with what he averaged for three of his past 4 seasons.
Terry's 3PT% in his last three seasons in Dallas was:
36.5%
36.2%
37.8%
His average this season? 37.2% - again dead on par with what he's averaged his past four seasons.
Free throw percentage the last three seasons?
86.6%
85.0%
88.3%
This season - 87.0%, which once again is right on the money.
In fact both his 3PT% and FT% were actually the second highest mark of his past 4 seasons.
Everyone is complaining that he hasn't done here what he did in Dallas...he's done EXACTLY what he did in Dallas. You couldn't possibly ASK for more consistency from season to season. Statistically this season has pretty much been a mirror image of his seasons in Dallas.
The only areas he has dropped off are his Per minute scoring and assist production, and that's only because of his DRAMATICALLY reduced role in the offense here compared to in Dallas where he was (again) the #2 scoring option after Dirk.
Terry averaged 13 FGA per game in his championship season in Dallas. This year he has averaged 8 FGA per game. How could Celtics fans even
begin to expect him to put up the type of pure numbers he did in Dallas? It's rediculous.
Terry has been a solid and dependable player for us all season long - he's provided exactly what anyone shold have expected given his role on this team, and yet all people have done is complain.
We were
bottom 10 in the league offensively, and Terry was our 4th best scorer. I urge the Terry haters to actually think about that statistic for a second, and then tell me where they think our season would have gone if we DIDN'T have Terry on the team. Just try to take 10 PPG off our already hideous scoring average and tell me we'd have even come close to making the playoffs.
