One last note:  Boston tends to excel when they can focus on one team and then build a strategy against them.  We're an intelligent veteran team that knows how to adapt to our opponent.  I wouldn't be surprised to see us lose this first game... and then win the next 4.  That's just the way we are.

Yup... we lost the first game.  That was expected.  We have a history of losing the first game and adjusting.  Let everyone have their hissy fit panic attacks... it's like they haven't followed the Celtics before.

Right on cue... Pierce with 39 minutes and KG with 37.  We held the Knicks to 85 points.  Our bench contributed a total of 0 field goals and we had 20 turnovers.  We only lost by 7.  Not bad.  Chaulk it up to rust... the Celtics haven't played real basketball for over a month.

Not worried.  We'll sweep the next 4.

DOUBLE OR NOTHING!

Celtics will sweep the next 4.   The Knicks aren't very good.   LOL

Truthfully, the Knicks aren't very good at all... it's just that Boston is the dregs of the NBA right now.  THey are playing like a 41 win lotto team that hasn't been a contender in 2 years and is missing their 3rd and 4th best players (Rondo and Ray).

Still... they'll sweep the next 4.  It's just the Knicks.

I'd actually really like to see New York play Miami if both teams can stay reasonably healthy. I think NYC is one of the few teams in the Eastern Conference that can put enough points on the board to deal with LeBron and company.

OTOH, at halftime this game was close. We need more than Crawford to step up from the bench.

I'm not saying I lost hope, but I might've already sent a Knicks college friend his "Tryin To Get That Pipe?" t-shirt as apart of our random t-shirt bet.

Without Rondo, the Celtics are NOT better than the Knicks.

The Knicks are a really good team.  They had a rough stretch in the middle of the season (of course they did, with Sheed there to tell them when to flip the switch), but at the beginning and the end of the season they have been VERY good.  They have the best defensive big man in the game, and one of the top 4 or 5 isolation scorers, which is the makings of a very good playoff team.  Add to that the depth and veteran toughness they have this season, and I think they are going to be a hard out for even the Heat, if they can stay relatively healthy.

The C's on the other hand, are missing their best player (arguably), are very thin up front, and have no one who can break down defenses, and create shots when the defense tightens up.

Yep.  One is a legitimate contender, the other is a borderline playoff team.  It's painful to admit that, because we're used to these things being the other way around for us.  But that's the reality of the situation.

It sure would be nice, but hard to believe after such horrid second halves the past two.

...as for Rondo being third best, I really don't see how anyone at this point in time can say he is anything but our best player. Ray has always been pretty terrible in the playoffs, though - Green more than makes up for him...unfortunately, we have just gotten old.

Uhhhhhh!!!!

Not this year at all. The Celtics are a thoroughly horrible team that should be in the lottery. They are completely deficient in talent.

I can sum this up in TWO word catch phrases
1) Poor Talent – The Celtics do not have the talent anymore to compete with the upper echelon teams. They declined from 42 and 24 to 41 and 40 year over year. That is symptomatic of a decaying team. Danny Ainge needs to be questioned not Doc Rivers.

2) No Rondo – Rondo has had the keys to this franchise for the last three years. The Celtics have a horrible offense without Rondo and the second halves of games one and two in New york are quite disturbing indeed.

3) Atrocious Rebounding – A byproduct of 1) and 2) above and missing Sullenger hurts the cause a lot.

4) KG and PP – I don’t think they are top thirty players anymore. THe team is Jeff Green and to a lesser extent Brandon Bass.

Too Small and Too Slow is ineffective in the NBA.

Frankly I expect to lose a close game Friday and then check out Sunday and then the questions really begin in earnest. Does Paul Pierce get his 5 million severence? Does KG waive his no trade clause and follow Paul Pierce out the door? Or do they become full time coaches for the Celtics? Or does Rondo really coach this team all along?

The beatings will continue until morale improves

Yes, the Celtic's best player was missing from the first two games but it isn't Rondo, it is KG.  KG played old to start the season and we were average, even with Rondo.  Then there was a stretch where KG played great, it coincided Rondo being out, and we were very good; beating all the best teams.

Then KG got hurt and the team became below average (no Rondo and no KG).  A tall skinny man in a Celtics uniform is back but it doesn't appear to be KG.  That is the main problem in my opinion.

Rondo would help; he could make us average again like at the beginning of the season.  Paul Pierce is playing a little old too and that doesn't help but I fear that KG is really hurting; not only just general wear and tear but he may also have one or more specific injuries.

Not good for the Celtics.

Truthfully, the Knicks aren't very good at all...

This is laughable, are you kidding me?

The Knicks are one of 4 teams with a legit shot at the title this year.  The only teams I would put ahead of NY are Mia/OKC/SA, that's it.

The Knicks aren't very good indeed (poor defense, poor rebounding, tendencies to snap into Melo-watching mode, too much reliance on the long ball).

The Celtics are still worse.

Haha. Rondo could make us average again like we were during the season. Just like he did last year when he almost led us to the finals, or maybe like he did in 2010 when he did get us there. It's not like we don't see the team play poorly for stretches during the season *every single year*, eventually people should be able to see the pattern.
