Remember last year, how literally almost the entire NBA said that we won't even make the playoffs? We did.

Remember last year, how literally almost the entire NBA said we Will lose in the first round? We won.

Remember last year, how literally almost the entire NBA said we will lose in the second round? We won.

Remember last year, how literally almost the entire NBA said we will get swept by the Heat? We took them to 7 games and 3 quarters and full ref help for them to win.

The point is, almost everyone counted the team out last year at every stage of the season. You know who didn't? WE, the fans.

Remember what the team told the media after every game?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZvYX-kRVog

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWhp1cMMwQw

You know what the difference is this season? Celtics' very own fans are counting them out.

I sincerely hope this particular thing gives the Celtics enough motivation to win and not only prove haters won't, but also their own fans.

I don't care whether we play the bobcats or the Heat, when you yourself don't put your trust on your team, what's the point of being a fan or cheering for your team?

I am not basing this whole post on the opinions of CB members, but many fans.

Now is not the time to count KG, Pierce and Terry out. This is when they need us the most.

I really hope that this post makes even the slightest bit of difference for you guys.

Come on Celtics Nation, this is when we become united and put trust and belief in our team and let them know that we have placed or full trust, belief and faith in them.

Let's go Celtics *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap*

I like your optimism, but one of us is misremembering things.  I think plenty of Celtics fans counted the team out last year, and the year before, and the year before that.

I think the team has proven plenty of times that they're a totally different team in the playoffs.  I fully expect them to beat the Knicks, and I won't be surprised if they go farther than that.

I'm Boston's "very own fan".
I've believed all year.
I know we can win a championship.

Don't forget us true believers!

Love this team so much. I know we can get 18.

Not for a second did I think the celtics would get swept by the heat last year. Did anybody really think that? I think 5 games were the furthest people were going when it came to not giving the celtics a chance.

I keep saying this and Ill say it again, the celtics went as far as they were supposed to go last year *After rose went down*. They had no business losing before they did. Maybe they overachieved by one game.

This team does have heart but heart alone isn't enough to win it all. You need enough talent to get it done. The celtics have enough talent to make some noise but I don't believe they have enough to beat the heat. If they beat the heat it will be because the celtics were playing like a team possessed *And they could still lose even if this happens* or it will be because the heat beat themselves. I don't see either happening.

This year, we are heading into the postseason without one of our biggest pieces in Rajon Rondo.

Also, last year, KG was legit 20/10 player in the postseason, can he duplicate that?

I am still pulling for the team and in no way counting them out against the Knicks. I think we actually should beat the Knicks cause the Knicks are also not at full strength.

Hopefully, Pierce can play better this post season and Jeff Green's production and defense can pick up the slack for missing out on Rondo.

We need to play Melo straight up, no doubles and we need to run Knicks shooters off the 3 point line and stop dribble penetration. If we can do these things 75% of the time we can win this series.

I truly believe the Knicks used up all their long range bullets winning those last regular season games in a row....they are going to start shooting blanks in the playoffs.

Does this even make sense?!

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
I have been a C's fan since the late 90's, I bleed green, I read everything there is to read about the Celtics.

If not believing that this team will win the championship this year makes me a hater, then I am a hater. And, you know what? I love being a hater.

Last year when the team overachieved despite me thinking there was no way they could it was a great experience. Having my expectation exceeded when I think they won't go far is an extremely enjoyable way to be a fan.

As a Patriots fan I consistently expect them to win the title,  then when they do not I am crushed. I much prefer expecting little of the Celtics (because of an average regular season) then expecting the world and being crushed.

I call 'em like I see em. If that makes me a hater so be it. Don't be confused by this and think I care any less about the team because I happen to be a pessimist.

I have a slightly different take than the OP, albeit perhaps more abstract.

I always think of Boston fans as among the hardest on their own teams, at least this was my impression up until about ten years ago. Boston teams were the lovable losers, but losers for  sure. I think it had something to do with the Red Sox, who kept getting close, then blowing it all.

The Celtics on the 80s were s rare bright spot, but then. Birds back went out, and Reggie and Len happened. And Karma seemed restored. We were losers again.

Then we had the Pats and Red Sox of the early 00s, and then the Celtics, and then the Bruins. And I noticed a big change. People in Boston started to expect their team to (gasp) win.

But there's now been a few years' drought, and I see Bostonians reverting back to old form. Reverting back to tradition. Namely, fear of expecting too much, bc it always ends poorly for us.

So, I don't see it as sad, but just the way things are in Boston. It's normal.
Celtics fan for life.

Is this referring to Boston fans? Believe it or not, most of us here aren't even from Boston! I, for one, don't care for any other Boston teams, just the Cs. But I do believe we are rough on our fans. You know the old saying... "hating the one you love most." Seems right.

But it is an interesting theory.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
Here's the way I look at things (and you can check my previous posts if you don't believe me):

We're beating the Knicks.  I'm not afraid of them, not even a little.  Then, we'll play the Pacers, who we've had success against this year.  I'm confident against them.

Unfortunately, those two series are going to drain us and we'll be left to take on the Heat, absolutely exhausted.  However, I believe we match up very well with the Heat, so who knows?

One last thought, regarding that potential Celtics-Heat series: people forget, Danny didn't build this team to win a title, he built it to beat Miami.  So, despite losing Rondo and Sully, we still have the parts to give the Heat all they can handle.  We won't be a favorite, I'll tell you that, but judging by the past few years, that's just the way this team likes it.

Go Celtics.

I don't know when you started with the forums but after the team got off to a poor start last year the vast majority of the posters were talking about the Celts being complete toast and having no chance whatsoever of making any noise in the playoffs if they even managed to get to the playoffs. I can remember people claiming that anyone who thought the Celts had a chance of overtaking Philly in the standings was delusional.

I wasn't one of those people, but in their defense, Philly's start was scorching, and our's was underwhelming.

I don't think anyone saw Philly's second half collapse, or our second half surge.

Wasn't here last year, so I can't vouch.

What I do know: this year is gonna be full of optimism from yours truly.
