I've watched almost every game this year - but missed last night's game.

Has Doc ever played KG and Shavlik together for a single minute? If so I've missed it.

I understand he perhaps wants units to play together for rhythm and it seems like it's:

KG & Bass to start
Shavlik and Bass
KG & Wilcox

or something like that....

But particularly against a physical team like New Jersey I'd really like to see KG and Shavlik in there together.

Actually, I'd really just like to see the two of them playing together period. I think they could be "very" tough on the boards and probably quite good together defensively.

Shavlik is much better at playing the "banger" role than bass or Wilcox and that would take some heat of of KG in that department.

has anyone seen KG and Shavlik on the floor together at the same time, ever?

Doc is using KG exclusively as a C, same with Randolph it seems. Is willing to let Wilcox/Bass play either position though.

I like what you're saying.

Wilcox is better as a 4 than as a 5, and Shav makes perfect sense as KG's backup at the 5, so I can see why KG and Shav haven't played together, but I would love to see KG and Shav get big minutes together in the playoffs—that would be our best rebounding and defensive combo at the 4/5.

And since KG will presumably be playing heavy minutes in the postseason, that means Shav wouldn't play much if Doc were to keep the rotation as it is now, and I, for one, would like to see Shav getting significant minutes in the playoffs. KG can play more outside, Shav will go inside. Perfect.

But how would Shav be at the 4?  That's what I'm curious about.

I guess I was thinking Shav at center and KG at power forward.

Yeah, I'm really just wondering.  We know Shav can hold down the fort at center pretty well except against much larger guys.

I wonder how many PF's can he keep up with?  Surely not the fastest, but the C's, for example, have Green or Bass who can handle that.

I guess I was thinking Shav at center and KG at power forward.

In a vacuum, this is what I would like to see, and surmise would be our best pairing from a defense and rebounding perspective.

The problem is that the Knicks like to play Melo at PF a lot, and I'm not sure how well KG can guard him on the perimeter any more.  It also means Shav would be defending Chandler.  That would be a difficult match-up for us, as well.

It just seems, to me, that the Knicks are better equipped to force the match-ups.  I just don't think KG is as capable, any more, of exploiting his advantage on the offensive end against Melo, as Melo is capable of exploiting his advantages against KG.  Now, maybe having Green and Pierce on the court, when KG is also on the court, will tilt the overall advantage in our favor, as the Knicks don't have the requisite personnel to match-up against both.

Ultimately, I just don't think we'll see much of KG/Shav, due to these match-up problems.  KG and Bass, with Green and Pierce, is still probably our best counter to Melo at PF.  Depending on who the Knicks play at SF, Bass could possibly cross-match, and allow Green or Pierce to defend Melo.  We'll probably end up seeing a whole lot of Green at PF, with Bradley and Lee in the back-court, though.

I guess we'll find out in a couple weeks.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. When we're facign a big or physical team, I'd really like to see how KG and Shavlik do together. Didn't Steamer and KG also play some minutes together last year?

I thought a good opportunity last night would have been any time NJ had some combination of Screech, Blatche, and/or Reggie Evans on the floor.

I also don't mind us being the ones imposing the bigger lineup on teams. This wouldn't work, as someone mentioned if LeBron or Melo are at the four - in which case you put Green or Pierce at the four.

But against something like Bosh / Haslem, I'd like to see Shavlik banging with Haslem, not KG.

In general I'm just a fan of seeing how two guys would work together and I think Shavlik and Kg would be a very feisty pairing that might feed well off each other in the paint.

Thing is, we're not playing the Nets.

I wonder how Doc plays against NY. I see Shav getting very sparse minutes and a few DNPs. Like Steamer, while Wilcox gets minutes every game like Hollins.

Hollins = Wilcox
Steamer = Shav
Jeff Green - Top 5 SF

Hollins = Wilcox

Stiemer didn't play toward the end of last season primarily because he was limited with his injury.

I think unless Shav implodes in these last few games, he and Wilcox will get close to even minutes in the playoffs.  It may go as it has been of late, with Shav in first, but Wilcox with a few more minutes.

Doc pretty much knows how Wilcox matches up with the teams in the league, but Shav is an experiment where he's checking it out on the fly most games.

Really?   Steamer was a shot blocker and Shav is a rebounder.  I am not seeing it.
