That should be the number one trade transaction that is being talked about. I just dont see anyone wanting Bass especially giving up a Big Man at the caliber we would be looking for.

You can probably get someone like Andris Biedrins or Tyrus Thomas.

You'd be better off doing a salary dump of someone like Jason Terry if it is necessary to put the Celtics sufficiently under the luxury tax threshold to give them the ability to use the full MLE on someone like Samuel Dalembert, Zaza Pachulia, or Mareese Speights (if he declines his option) to add to a rotation that includes Garnett, Bass, and Sullinger.

I think you got to offer a draft pick.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Oh goody, another thread that wants to trade "Bass" + "filler" for "a better version of Bass".

Here's another example: I trade you half a pizza for your whole pizza. I'll throw in an empty pizza box to make the weight match! Interested?

i couldnt have said it any better. u get a TP for that. i think ppl have to be a tad bit more realistic than just "bass + filler = starting calibur PF/C that rebounds, scores, and plays great defense". i personally dont hate bass, and i think he's doing a reasonable job considering the diminished role he's been in all year, but u cant honestly expect to trade in a silver coin, and a bronze coin, and then expect a gold bar out of it.

In fairness he didn't say he wanted a better version of Bass or a starting caliber guy.

I don't think any team would be looking to trade FOR Bass but in the right situation they might do a deal INVOLVING Bass. In other words Bass wouldn't be the appealing aspect of the trade he would just be part of it. It would have to be a team where Bass would fit in well in order to make it worthwhile to take on 6m a year or a situation where the Celtics are taking more back in bad contracts.

I've always thought Denver could use a PF similar to Bass who can space the floor for their bigs, provide shooting (their hallmark) and some energy off of the bench. With Iggy reportedly opting out of his current deal and Lawson's extension kicking in I don't know how much they are going to have to spend in FA. Bass would fill a need and they could send us Mozgov in a sign and trade since he is a free agent. I hear that people expect him to return but he is getting so few minutes right now maybe he decides to walk and they'd rather get something out of him than letting him walk. We would have to include a pick (or swap picks) and the salaries don't match, but thats one of the few teams I could see him fitting in with.

The Warriors could be another option. Biedrins sees no real court time and they are going to lose Landry and Jack when they opt out this summer. They might take on Bass if we include Terry (to replace Jack add veteran presence) and Bass can fill in at PF. We could try to get back Ezeli and Biedrins to fill out our front court. The trade actually probably makes us worse but fills a major hole in the front court, Biedrins comes off the books the next summer (9m) and Ezeli is Fab-esque but further along. Plus SG is our deepest position so Terry's loss isn't that bad.

Depends. In your analogy, Bass may be half a plain cheese pizza, but I'd take that over a whole ham and pineapple pizza that's gone stone cold.

tru tru

he didnt say it. but this is what he wants, its wat we all want, but for wat he's willin to give up, its not happenin plain and simple. im not about getting a big man just for the sake of him being big. can bass be tradable? absolutely, but in this trade idea, bass is the main centerpiece, and by filler, im assuming he means just another player to help salaries match. i cant see terry bein a hot commodity right now. i think terry is playin good basketball, but right now he's not bein given the minutes to make other teams go "[dang] i need him on my bench". plus he's signed for 3 years right? by next year he'll turn 35 or 36 and still have 2 years left on his contract.

then u have bass who's signed for like 4 years? bass is playin good basketball, but like u said i dont think he can be used as a center piece to draw in some good big men. it would have to be bass and someone more enticing than bass like a bradley or rondo or somethin. im not advocating a trade for either one of them, but i think u get wat im sayin.

The only reason I think Bass might be trade-able, is that his contract is only for two seasons after this one.  Sure, he's over-paid, but there are always teams that end up needing to fill salary slots with warm bodies.

Basically, the C's are likely going to need to find a team going through a transition period, that would be ok with spending $6m+ on a player to take up a spot on the team until their more ready to compete for real.  Also, said team would likely need to be the third team in any such trade.  Essentially, we'd be looking to trade for a player through a sign-and-trade, and send Bass to another team.  This is where our recently signed Chinese-League players may become useful.  Their non-guaranteed salaries for next season might help make numbers match.

The big question would be, what other assets would be required to get this hypothetical third team to take on Bass.

One idea that makes sense would be a trade where another team needs to create cap space to sign a free agent.

So, I could imagine Dallas trying to create additional cap space by trading Shawn Marion for Bass and unguaranteed contracts, giving the Celtics a good option for a smallball 4.

Bass + Lee

for

Granger + Mahinmi

If they wanted Crawford instead of Lee, I'd of course do that, but I'm not sure why Indy would.  I'd give them Melo if they wanted him.

Indy saves a bunch of cash next year (so they can re-sign guys) and get a potential West replacement (in case he leaves) and a nice young potential starting SG to play with George and Hill.

I really like the Pierce/Green/Granger/Sullinger 3/4 rotation going forward and Mahinmi is a nice backup center providing some nice depth.  Granger also expires after next year so he isn't a long term commitment and opens up some potential cap space.

Cold pizza rocks!

I do not think Bass will be a big draww for us.   He is a tweener.  Good shooter, but lousy rebounder and too small to D up a true big.
