Has there ever been a team that has two players (in this case, Rondo and Pierce) get at least three triple-doubles during the regular season?

Stein addressed this very point in his power rankings this week:

"The Celts lead the league in triple-doubles with eight: Rajon Rondo's five and Paul Pierce's three. We pass this novelty along -- two teammates with three triple-doubles each for the first time since Hakeem and Clyde in 1995-96"

Yeah, I was going to point out that MJ and Pippen did it in the '92-'93 season, as well.  Four for Pippen, four for Jordan.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Maybe Paul has a couple of tds left in him this season - then they would each have 5  :D

Funny, I though of Drexler but I was guessing it might be Porter or Kersey from the Blazers.

In 1989, Drexler had four and Porter had three.  Not the most recent, but Drexler and Porter did pull off that feat.

And MJ and Scottie had 4 each in 1993, as Roy noted.

Interesting that we've only found 4 instances of this ever happening, and Clyde Drexler is involved twice.

Haha. Thanks for the vindication. I was always a fairly big Drexler fan back in the day.

Three triple-doubles isn't half bad for a 35 year old. Not that Pierce hasn't gotten recognition for being a well rounded player, but I still feel like his passing and particularly his rebounding have always been underrated aspects of his game.

Slightly off topic, but do you think any Celtics will get a 5x5? (5 in each category, typically pts/ast/reb/stl/blk)

Current roster? No. I don't feel like looking it up, but has anyone in the NBA gotten one since AK47? It takes an extremely complete and skilled player to even have a realistic chance at it. If KG never got one then no one on this roster has a snowball's chance in hell.

Batum actually got one earlier this season (the first since AK47)

TPs have been doled out.  Thanks, guys.

While they may not be the first to do it, it should be recognized that Rondo and Pierce, while not the most talented at their respective positions, are two of the more versatile players in the NBA.

Glad to have them on our team.

Really? Wow, would have been way down my list of guesses. That's impressive.
