I can understand passing on a 35-year-old who has had microfracture surgery on both knees and whose Chinese basketball team wanted to outright cut him if their league hadn't pressured the team, leading to that weird buyout and refusal to grant a letter of clearance.

So, he was basically an old, injury-prone big coming off a season where he was cut from a Chinese team in all but name and proceeded to shoot 44.1% from the field and 37.0% from the free throw line with a 11.5% total rebounding percentage (or pretty much rebounding exactly what Brandon Bass has been doing the past two seasons).  He reportedly tried to start a locker room revolt against Vinny del Negro during his time with the Clippers.

Kenyon Martin was averaging 14 points and 7 rebounds per game in a league where DJ White was averaging 21 and 10 and Shavlik Randoloph 32 and 14.

Given all that, he sounds like a huge ball of risk that you can't blame a team for not being interested in.

He was also said to have been insisting on more than the minimum salary when the season started.  In Ainge's place, I probably would have asked him to sign a minimum, partially guaranteed contract.
But...but...but... how am I going to blame Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers for global warming and the war in Iraq if all of this is true?!

Ainge gets a pass for missing KMart.

But Doc and Danny's contributions in global warming are undeniable.

Yep, Danny blew it.  If only he had signed KMart, we would be shoe-ins to win the title.

Nah, hes washed up and his attitude would have single handedly brought down this whole team like dynamite......Completely ignore what's actually happening right now with him and the knicks so this will make sense to you..

Jason Terry looks like he's washed up too. And I rather deal with attitude problems in the locker than dealing with this 5 game losing streak because of bad basketball, and not just this but those other multiple losing streaks we've had this season.

Based on what?  I've said this once, I've said this a million times.  Aside from points per minure (down due to reduced role) every one of Terry's stats is dead equal to his last season in Dallas and pretty much dead equal to his career average.

Terry haters have nothing to use against him except some strange apparent belief that he was going to come to Boston and average 25 PPG and 10 APG while replacing Rondo as the starting PG for the East All-Stars.

:/

"It was real close," Martin told me before last night's game. "Like, the deal was almost done. From what I understood, [coach] Doc [Rivers] wanted me and the players wanted me, but in the 11th hour …"

In the 11th hour what?

"They didn't pull the trigger," Martin said. "And I'm not talking a few days ago or even a few weeks ago. This was a couple of months ago.

I am starting to think given our injuries that it would be best to slip out of the playoff race and get some help in the lottery.  Probably would not be picking high but what good is losing in the first round?   It's looking more and more like we will play MIA if we keep losing.   While I think we will take them to the limit, I just don't see Stern letting us beat his well marketed team and I think the refs would have a field day.

Wanted him from the beginning of the season really... Now that he is killin' it and starting in NY. I want him even more. Oye.

I can see where we wanted a bigger big however. Martin still wouldn't have given up the center we needed but certainly would have provided much needed toughness and rebounding downlow.

We needed a big with size like DJ white... who is the same height and 5 LBS lighter than martin. Maybe we were looking for length? Or vertial leap? Or........ what does big with size mean if you are taking DJ over Martin? Yes that is a rhetorical question
