I posted this in the game thread tonight and it got buried quickly.  Lee did this tonight and it brought up a pet peeve:

How is it that NBA players can foul intentionally and still let up a hoop?  Are the players just so strong that they can score anyhow, or is it that the defender doesn't want to get called for a flagrant by fouling too hard?

It seems to me that if you just smack the guy pretty hard on the shooting hand he's not going to score.
Yup

I think trying to avoid a flagrant has something to do with it for sure. That's one of the unintended consequences of being quick triggered with flagrant 1's (Relatively speaking).

I think not wanting to get a flagrant or just being flat out dirty. Especially if it is a bigger player than you. You can't really karate chop Dwight howard as much as i'd love to see it happen.

One of my pet peeves and I don't know if this is basically the same thing but it's when they reach in and foul (or somethin like that) and then let the guy get the shot off after or lay up for an and 1. Basically what Wilcox did last where he did end up a getting a flagrant. I cut them slack SOMETIMES though because the refs are so horrible sometimes they'll just give some an and 1 bucket

Pretty much any play where you're giving up a foul purposefully in attempt to make a guy hit two free throws rather than a layup.

Just wrap them up (put your hands around their body, including their arms) but I can see why it might be hard to get their hands with the body.

Dahntay Jones and lots of NBA players make unnecessary fouls (ergo intentional?).

Those small ticky-tack pushes are never really called flagrant though.

That foul on Kobe is how not to execute an intentional foul.

Yeah, sadly at game speed this is not so easy.
