I don't think you will find many people that agree with you on that play being 100 percent on brady.

Several have posted in this thread that it was a bad throw, and that Welker wasn't to blame.  I'm confident that there are literally millions of football fans who feel the same way.

Saying it was a bad throw and saying it was 100 percent on brady is not the same thing. Saying it was 100 percent on brady means the ball wasn't catchable and welker had no fault in not making that catch. Which is once again, a ridiculous statement to make.

I agree with your defense of Welker Roy and his credentials are definitely unparalleled.  Nonetheless, a great receiver has to make a great catch in that situation.  That's part of what makes the greats great.
Yup

Clearly not a 100% either way.

I've said this a hundred times - on the play Brady wound up to make the throw then hesitated momentarily and opted to throw a softer pass. It's my opinion that he made the backshoulder throw to protect Welker from an oncoming safety.

I think Brady probably overestimated the closeness of the safety - though he absolutely could've laid a pretty devastating blow -  but Welker's got to catch that.

That being said, I'm seething over the Patriots letting go of Welker.

We've been forced to play Deion Branch in critical playoff games the past three straight seasons, and this team STILL discounts a players ability to consistently be on the field week in and week out. Pathetic.

I'm going to lose my mind the week Amendola, Gronkowski and Hernandez all show up on the IR.

Welp...I like Wes...won a lot of regular season games with him, was very reliable in the regular season...not a good riddance situation but not the end of the world the pats are moving on  especially if they use that money on the defense.

Yeah I'm with you on everything here. I'm more upset about him going to the broncos then I am him leaving here. I'm no where close to the "The patriots are doomed without welker" train.

Look at Welker's body language after he drops it. He knows.

Yeah.  He's frustrated that his acrobatic attempt to bail out his QB came up just short.

Haha! You don't give in without a fight do you, Roy?
:)

I'm generally willing to admit when I'm wrong.  I just don't happen to believe I'm wrong here. ;)

I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong as well. I feel like I'm 100 percent right on this tho. I don't think you will find many people that agree with you on that play being 100 percent on brady.

I'd say it's 90% on Brady. The only thing Welker could have possibly done differently, is maybe turn the other direction.  The problem then is, he'd be trying to make the catch while looking back over his inside shoulder.

It was just a plain bad throw.

Or he could have held on to the ball.......I mean, if that's an option..........

I'm with you. I think I watched that play more times tonight than I ever have [combined]. Maybe the Amendola signing is more of a statement - if Welker were just a couple of inches taller, he would have easily caught the ball and Brady would now have 4 rings  :)

Well sure, he could have held onto the ball.  To expect him to make that catch, though, just seems unreasonable to me.  That would be like me blaming Manningham, had he not made that spectacular sideline catch.  You just can't expect the spectacular.

I meant, what could Welker have done that would have possibly made it an easier catch.  And while I'm not really convinced turning the other way necessarily would have, it seemed to me it would have been the more plausible play (thus the reason I give Welker 10% blame).

are you freakin kiddin me...what a huge mistake...i'm so p---ed...we offer welker 2 yrs & $10M and he takes 2 yrs & $12M...meanwhile...we give Amendola $10M guaranteed and he freakin missed 20 games in the last 2 yrs...and...we just helped the Broncos in the process...Mcdaniels whiffed on Lloyd...i thought Lloyd was just avg...Amendola will be the same ...avg...Bill trusts McDaniels way too much...will go down as one of Bill's worst moves ever...and i'm  member of the "in bill we trust club"...this is almost like trading troy brown...why not sign Edelman before Amendola...this was a huge whiff...i'm so p---ed...Amendola will miss a ton of games...guaranteed...

Meh, I guess we can agree to disagree. I feel like when a ball hits you square in the hands *especially in the superbowl* you gotta make that catch in the NFL.

I remember seeing this a couple of months back and thought I'd share. My apologies if it's already been posted.

Quote
Tony Softli, formerly the Rams VP of player personnel and Panthers director of college scouting, believes Rams WR Danny Amendola has emerged as a "Blue" player this season.
"Blue means play maker and difference maker; an impact player each and every time they touch the field," explained Softli. "It is a future Pro Bowler that can take over a game with great production." NFL Network's Michael Lombardi agrees, telling Rotoworld "the slot receiver is a position all to itself -- and in that category, he is a blue -- with an arrow up." If the Rams agree with the evaluation, Amendola will be a candidate for the franchise tag in 2013.
