If I had to do a deal(and I'm not sure if the new S&T rules will allow this this offseason or not) but I would do Rondo and Bass for Pau. It eliminates Rondo and Bass' contracts and replaces them with a post up player who could easily play off Paul and KG. Pau can provide additional scoring as well. Our starting 5 is AB/Lee/Paul/KG/Pau.
The Lakers do with as it allows Nash to come off the bench where he really belongs at this point. Kobe likes Rondo's game. Bass fits in right next to Howard spreading the floor like he did in Orlando. And now the starting lineup fits together better. And also they get younger and more athletic. All this assuming Howard plans to resign of course.
I don't get that trade for Boston at all. I'd love to have Pau, but I would stick with Pau and Metta for Green, Bass, and Terry (maybe Lee if I had to). By including Metta, LA gets a huge cap savings and he replaces Green as Boston's backup SF so LA might be willing to take on less back (and it also means they don't have to amnesty anyone). Pau and Metta are both expiring, which when coupled with Pierce (who is expiring) and KG (who would then likely retire), would make Boston a major player in free agency after the 2014 season and would still let them have Rondo to build around and attract free agents. And the real key to the trade from Boston is a team with Rondo, Lee (hopefully), Bradley, Crawford, Pierce, Metta, Gasol, Garnett, Sullinger (and the draft pick this year) would be a real threat to win the title with the size down low, the wing scoring from Pierce, and the PG play of Rondo.
Also, other players could also be included to get LA a bigger tax savings if necessary to get the deal done (like adding Hill and Blake and sending both Terry and Lee)
