  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I would want young assets and lottery picks. Something similar to what OKC got in return for James Harden.

If anything, this type of deal would have been the thing to do in the recent past. I think it's getting to late for it now -- there's really no point to adding mid-level pieces and salaries for Rondo if the team then presumably wouldn't have KG and / or Paul, or at least still have them at championship form, and that clock is ticking in a big way.

Dragic, Green, Gortat, Lee, Bradley et al is a lottery team with little to no cap space. If you're going to trade Rondo, get a true building block, or clear room and get rookie contracts and picks.
By no means would this be my first choice in terms of a trade for Rondo, I'd rather get a better building block straight out of the gate, but this is a solid haul.

Add Dragic and Gortat to our current roster with a healthy Sully coming back and I'd say we would be considered 2nd best in the East. By bringing in Dragic who is a true PG to run the first team offense we'd be flush with guards and could try to move Terry or Lee for a pick or more likely some younger/cheap depth. Plus whoever we choose with our very high lottery pick this season and our middle of the round choice. And we swap Bass's bloated contract for a younger similar version in Marcus Morris on a rookie contract.

We could make a serious last ditch run at another Championship with PP and KG.

The next season Gortat, Pierce and KG come off the books and you still have Dragic, Green, Sully (possibly Lee) resign Bradley, our two 2013 draft picks and over 35million in cap space to go after free agents in one of the best summer classes ever. I'd say that has a chance to put us back to being competitive rather quickly.

No situation is ideal, most rebuilding efforts fail, but the ideal scenario for me would be to be able to make one last ditch run next year with our current squad and still acquire a few young assets/picks to make rebuilding a little more fun to watch.

Sorry -- disagree. If this was a real option before this years trade deadline, maybe. But moving forward I see this deal as a lateral move at best, and likely a detrimental one.

Basically, I think you end up with the Toronto Raptors -- a mash of generally average players with commitments around 20-30% too high for too long that win some games and prevent you from getting high enough draft picks. That's no man's land. That's torture.

As the Cs retool, the last thing I want them to do is finish 9th or 10th in the East. I'd rather dump salary and develop a collection of players if we're not getting an All-Star caliber guy for Rondo.

By the way, i think your math according to cap rules is pretty far off.

Lebron James or James Harden.

Otherwise, keep Rondo and ride his amazing talent.

Fair enough. I agree that it would be far more appealing before this year's trade deadline, but I still think it would give us the chance to make a run next year and not totally handicap us going forward.

As I said its certainly not my first choice and I would definitely prefer to get a true building block player straight out of the gate.

But I think thats a type of deal Danny would be considering, with some quality players, a very high lottery selection and not taking on a horrendous contract. I'd prefer something with Sacramento or Denver (actually my first preference is keeping Rondo, but this is all about trading him).

Yeah that cap number should be 25 not 35 (and even that might be off). I think we are currently on the hook for 55m that season, minus KG's 12 if he retires, minus 7 for gortat, minus 3 for bradley and crawford, puts us at 33 plus 2 rookie contracts from 2013 would be in and around 35 and a cap of 60 so 25m. and that doesn't include any relief we get from moving Terry or Lee).

A big man whose over 6'10", can average over 10 rebounds per game, and can make 70%+ of his free throws.

So pretty much Randolph, Noah, Cousins or Lee? :P

Don't want Demarcus, and we aren't getting Noah.

Oh whoops, didn't realize both Randolph and Lee are listed at 6'9.

Yeah, was a little surprised neither are listed at 6'10". Neither is J.J. Hickson.

Everyone else averaging 10 rebounds shoots below 70% from the line this season.

Eek. Lin. I'd rather that the circus didn't come to town.

Ha I was just thinking of 6.10 guys who can rebound and shoot free throws (I think he does?)

I'm not a big fan of lin. Not really a big fan of asik either but havent seenn him play muxh this year. He more just seems like the type of guy who will get injured or be injured all the time
