His pick and pop with Rondo is supposed to be one of the most efficient way of scoring for this team, but recently I have rarely seen this play being executed. What happened to Bass? I think BBD is having a better season, or is it just 'the grass is always greener on the other side'?

Bass started the season out pretty good, but he hasn't contributed much lately.  I expected more from him.

Last year I was thrilled to have Bass instead of Baby.  This year Baby looks like he's playing better than Bass.  They are fairly equal as players.  Bass is more content in his role though.  But yeah, I wouldn't mind having Baby knock some people around right about now.

Why did Boston start out the Houston game posting up KG after never posting him up when Dallas went small?  Why do they rarely post up Green this season after it doing it consistently when he came over?  Why are we still running those stupid "let's stand around for 18 seconds while we run people off baseline screens" plays when Ray is gone?

Boston's offense is overly complicated and too dependent on designed plays in the halfcourt.  The team is also incredibly stubborn in that Doc and Rondo seem to refuse to acknowledge it when what they're trying to do isn't working.

I think right now what you're getting from Bass is what he is...and that's a VERY average bench player.

Last year, Bass played above his capability the first couple months of the season and everyone was quick to throw rose pedals at Ainge's feet for swapping Davis for Bass.

But since then, Bass has come back down to earth and is simply a bench player, nothing more, nothing less.

Unfortunately, Ainge didn't do his job of acquiring a better PF last summer, so we are stuck with Bass as our starter. ???

Bass has been working harder at defense and rebounding which is to me more needed.  His pick and pop shot is good but I'd like that if it isn't falling he is helping at the first 2 items.  He is a very good sub, not really starter material, add to that jason terry or courtney lee starting and there is a big problem right off the bat.  I'm thinking 2 forenamed players might be moved for a big.....

I don't think Bass is as involved offensively as he was last year. Not getting as many touches. Shot attempts are down.

I wonder if it's Jason Terry's presence in the starting lineup. Another hand to feed. Bass falling further down the pecking order. Fifth option on the court. Less shot attempts and touches to go around. Also, Jeff Green off the bench gets quite a few touches and shot attempts. There is just less leftover for Bass than there used to be.

Bass just doesn't feel as involved offensively as he did last year. For a guy that is fairly dependent on his scoring to have a positive impact on a game (Bass is a dodgy defender / rebounder + limited passer), that is a bad situation for Bass to be in.

Bass isn't taking his shot anymore look at the last 2-3 games everytime he gets it he pump fakes and passes it, maybe has lost some confidence.

This.

Which is why we it's either JET goes back to the bench as a 6th man, or Bass be the sixth man, put Wilcox or Green in the starting lineup. He's not really shooting as much now.

Because just as I was saying throughout the Off-season, he's just not a very good player.

Bass' play last season was grossly overrated based on the fact that he did one single thing exceptionally well - hit 12-15 foot jumpers. Everything else from his post game, to his defense, to his ball movement to his rebunding were all mediocre at best.

This year he is the same player, only now he is hitting his midrange  jumpers at around 45% rather than 50% like last season.  Now that his jumpshot is merely 'above average' rather than 'elite' it making his other weaknesses stand out more.

Offensively, he is one of the worst inside scorers I have seen at the PF position.  Anytime he gets the ball inside (either via a pass or an offensive rebound) he holds the ball and brings it down...the he waits a good 1-2 seconds so some help defenders can rush over...then he tries to go up to score.  He either:

1. Gets blocked
2. Gets stripped
3. Misses the shot
4. Loses the ball by bouncing off his foot
5. Gets bailed out by a lucky foul

Yes he's been one of our better offensive rebounders (not that this is saying much) but it's useless if he's just going to do the above and give the posession right back anyway.

His defense is spotty and inconsistent (sometimes good, sometimes terrible), he's got poor hands and offensive awareness, he's a mediocre rebounder who is grabbing one or two extra this season from hustle alone, and he's an incredibly limited offensive player who is completely incapable of scoring 1-on-1 with any type of consistency.

As another mentioned previously he is a bench-calibre player who is starting purely out of necessity rather than because he's a legit starting talent.  I won't go so far as to say he's a mediocre bench player (as suggested above). I'd say he is an above average bench player, but a below average starter.

To be brutally honest I think we played better when Sullinger was starting alongside KG and Bass was coming off the bench.  I don't mine the Green-Bass-Wilcox combination with the second unit, while Sullingers rebounding and ability to bang inside complements very nicely with KG's game.

Also Sullinger (like KG) has exceptionally good hands, has high IQ and is a skilled passer.  This works better with guys like KG, Pierce and Rondo who also have those same skills - we have some excellent ball movement when that group of guys is out there.

Last year unfortuantely Bass was just a product of the "decent player on a bad team" philisophy.  I know it sounds wrong to call a team that came 1 win from the ECF a bad team, but lets be honest - based on the talent alone we were pretty poor...we overachieved because of heart and effort.  With Green and Wilcox our for the season, our front court rotation consisted of:

* Brandon Bass
* Greg Steimsma
* Ryan Hollins

I think it's easy to see why Bass looked so impressive - he was essentially stood out from the crowd not because of his own ability, but because of the LACK of ability from the rest of the guys at his position.

Could be it. No pass bass went into a pretty ba slump where he was taking tons of shots and not hitting very many. Maybe the confidence is down, maybe he was talked to... Maybe he knows he is trade bait and he is trying to lower his value because he likes boston.

My gut feeling is that very shortly Bass and Lee are going to be starting regular games together ... for a different NBA team.

He has a feeling he's going to get traded. Either its in the back of his head, or he's trying to play like crap so he doesn't.

Kinda like Allen the last couple years. Once the trade deadline went by he played better. Its one reason DA's pulling the trigger too often may back fire on him over time.

Maybe thats why PP is playing bad. It isn't he's old, he doesn't want to get traded! LOL! :P

Bass is a bench player.   He was surrounded by more talent and younger talent last year.   This year guys are not letting him loose for the jumper.  Once they get film on you they can defend you better.
