I blame the three point shot, big man has been minimized since it's inception.   There have been some good ones but it seems like there are less and also it doesn't seem like we are cranking them out via school like they used to do so.

I would guess it's a world of distraction, whereas, 30 years ago you were tall you played basketball.   Now high school teams have kids not playing who are better than the kids who play.

I think the hand-checking rules on the perimeter have been the biggest factor in the downturn on post-play.

The most efficient way to penetrate a defense (get the ball in behind the set defense and force a defense to move) used to be by post-ups. But now with the rule changes, it is by dribble penetration and pick and roll play.

Coaches are just adapting to where the most efficient scoring opportunities are.
