and also, I saw in another post, Leandro is Brazilian so he can help develop Melo, which is another great investment long term.

This was the first thing I thought of as well when I read that we signed Barbosa.

First thing that struck me too.. .

Really like this signing. Is the strategy for 2013 to run the legs off the opponent and bring in the rested closers? I hope so!

Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

Apparently Barbosa hasn't been too comfortable in the US.

Quote from: a youtube comment
I think that LB is not too comfortable in the USA. He was too poor when he was a child. And he doesn't know English very well. In Brazil he was too good because he could talk to his teammates. But I thing that he'll play a lot =D.

It's a youtube comment (and a Lakers fan of all people, it seems) so take it with a grain of salt. If that is true, though, Fab and Barbosa would really bond. Fab has been struggling with the language barriers too after all.

His best years were in Phoenix with a great playmaker.  Hopefully Rondo can help him regain his form.

Barbosa is different than Terry.  He is more of an uptempo player.

I approve of the signing.  He is a vet and you know what you get with a player like that.

Like others have said, I like the move talent wise but it doesn't make much sense in terms of depth. Are we going to see a potential trade later in the season?

We are not trading anyone of value because we signed Barbosa.  He is a one-year rental for added depth at the PG and possibly the SG position.

People have to realize that AB is coming off of two shoulder surgeries - we don't know if he will ever be the same (I hope so).  JET is 35.  Rondo has played a ton of minutes over the past few years.

This move is all about making sure we have enough depth at the guard positions to give Rondo some more time off, allow AB to come back when he is ready and at full strength, and protects against any injuries to our guards.

In an ideal world, I would have preferred more size, and a more "pure" point guard.  Barbosa duplicates a lot of what Terry does.  That said, Barbosa was a lot better than most of the names thrown out there, and I'm very happy with the signing.  I figured he'd get more money than we had available.

AB is gonna get traded. Danny won't pay him, lee, and Terry all 5+ million with rondo making 11 mill. Avery can get an extension soon. I really like him, but DA might be ready to sell high here. Especially if it's bringing a prime time contributor ala Josh smith.

I don't believe this.  Defense is supposed to be the Celtics staple, so why would we trade our best defensive player behind KG?

If Bradley is traded it'll probably be with an eye to the future without KG (or where KG is no longer our lynchpin).

If Danny decides he's going to top out at a high level role player, he could easily be a piece to get a "star".

So we lose Ray, Moore and Dooling, and pick up Jet, Lee, and now Barbosa in return.....I make that trade in a heart-beat.....nice job again by Danny.   He's really improved throughout his tenure; shows the benefit of stability.....same with Doc.

This is nothing but another trade bait and I like it.  Danny is doing a very good job here.  Josh Smith is going to be here in January

Josh Smith would be nice for sure; but Bass, Wilcox and Barbosa are not going to get it done. You will have to give up Bradley or Green. If you are saying that Barbosa could fill in for Bradley if he is traded then yes you may have a point although I am not sure that Bradley is not more valuable than Smith in the long run.

I have to defend Smith, there. You're comparing a borderline all-star in his prime at a premium position to an injury-plagued young buck at a position where Leandro Barbosa can be signed for the vet min out of free agency!

Duplication of skills doesn't really matter -- we have minutes that need to be sopped up.

really wanted him last year.  Hope he still has some energy to be productive.  Sad we couldn't land Peaches but this is probably the better signing.  Too excited for this team! :o

my guess is they made a run at Pietrus but he wanted more than they could offer. Then they moved on to Barbosa...Whatever the reason...Doc wants really scoring off the bench this season...where he can rest his horses...
