Solid signing.  I like Barbosa.

Danny is acquiring a lot of mediocre/solid assets.  Maybe he can package some of them for an impact player like Josh Smith.

I don't dislike any of his signings. At this point, I just don't totally understand this roster.  I've been saying that for a while now.  Having 5 good shooting guards doesn't equal 1 elite shooting guard.  Right now we have lots of players... I don't get how they fit yet.

It's fun to get excited about Avery Bradley, Courtney Lee, Jason Terry, Jeff Green and Leandro Barbosa... but only a total homer wouldn't trade the whole lot of em for Dwight Howard.  It's too bad the NBA is a 5 on 5 game.  If we were allowed to play 12 players at once, we'd have a darn good team.

Doesn't make since because no team only plays 5 players every game for all 48mins or else what's the point of having other players? Where would Mia be if they didn't have someone to step in for Bosh when he went down or when Wade went down during the season? As good as Wade, Bosh, and Bron are they would not be champs today without guys like Miller/Battier coming in and performing well! We do have a darn good team! Where would we have been last season without all the other players who showed up when they had to step in for injured players? We would have been absolutely nowhere without Avery Bradley! Yes, you can only have 5 players on the court at one time but they can't play 48mins straight at an elite level every night (as good as players are, none are superhuman)! You never know how many players you will end up needing b/c anyone can get hurt! It's better to have other players who can step in who can actually perform well!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
We have Olympic diving pool depth at the 2, seems redundant.

But ultimately despite my fan-boy hope for Dionte Christmas, he was more 2 than 1 anyways, as is Barbosa. Barbosa should be better than Christmas, so upgrade.

Can't wait for the real games to start. Maybe it'll make more sense after.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Barbosa, but only cautiously. He has not looked good the past few years other than the Olympics. Dunno what to make of the alleged philanderer.

The last time Barbosa truly thrived was in an up-tempo Phoenix system with one of the best passers at that time in Nash...
After our off-season, I dare say Boston will be up-tempo, with the best passer right now in Rondo.

I'm all on board for this signing.

KG and Pierce aren't getting any younger. I'm sure they're happy they don't have to shoulder all the load.

Two points from the bench in Game 7 vs Miami.

And barely any bench points scored in the 2010 NBA Finals Game 7 *shudders*

Derek Fisher.

It was going to be Derek Fisher, not Barbosa.

Does that make the signing look that much better?

Edit: or Jamar Smith...or Carlos Arroyo

Are you going from a news release or something? Man Derek Fisher would've annoyed to no end. Barbosa is way better.

Going by Celticsblog, the remaining options and the fact that we signed another ballhandler.

So glad.

and also, I saw in another post, Leandro is Brazilian so he can help develop Melo, which is another great investment long term.

This was the first thing I thought of as well when I read that we signed Barbosa.

Thing is... Bron averaged 44 minutes in the finals.  Wade averaged 40 minutes in the finals.

As far as "Where would the Heat be if they didn't have someone to step in for Bosh when he went down?"... your answer is... "Down 3-2 to the Celtics".   As soon as Bosh came back, the Heat took care of business.

It's a superstar league.  Having lots of average mediocre players is helpful, but at the end of the day... it's gonna be the Dwight Howards of the world who make the difference... not the Courtney Lees.

I'm not complaining about the signings.  They are solid role players and we have a lot of depth.  If KG and Pierce play like they did in their youth, that depth will be nice to have.  But I don't totally see yet how having a handful of average bigs surrounding KG and a handful of average shooting guards makes us a contender.  I'd gladly take 40 minutes of Dwayne Wade over 10 minutes of Lee + 10 minutes of Terry + 10 minutes of Barbosa + 10 minutes of Bradley

I like the signing but then again, I've kept thinking that Barbosa will rediscover his form for the past three years because he's too young to have lost it so suddenly.  He used to make scoring look so easy.  I'm on my fourth year of holding out hope and he's only still 29 so there's still a chance.  If he can become a 40 percent three point shooter again and get back to making layups with consistency, he'll be a fabulous addition.  At any rate, it's good to see another three point shooter on this roster.  I couldn't stand the Celtics having so few three point shooters the past two years.

I don't want to go back and forth b/c I can see you aren't really thinking this through. I will leave you with this...

If not for someone coming off the bench to start in Bosh's place, they wouldn't have been playing 1 game against the Celtics much less going down 3-2... unless you know how you can play with 4 men on your roster in the NBA! I'm not arguing that the stars aren't important (the most important), I am arguing with your idea that you only need superstars, Mia needed everything those "scrubs" named Miller,Battier,Chalmers, etc. could give them! These guys aren't going to get the press (outside of Boston fans/media) but if we had a guy like Wilcox or Jeff Green, who knows what we could have done against Mia, neither of which are superstars, they are just solid bench/role players. You undervalue bench/role-players, I bet those superstars you mention don't! Mia are the champions but tell me this, if you only need superstars then why did Mia go out and find players past their primes that are now role players to add to that team? Because they know, while you need the superstars, you also need guys who will step in and do the little things, some of which will never show up on a stat sheet! One last thing... ask Shaq about his last season in LA, ask him if all you need are superstars...
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)
