It's unconfirmed, but it wouldn't surprise me. Both have not impressed me at all, but then again, neither has Joseph.

Front page broke it first!

I think that if the Celtics cancel Christmas, I'll be bummed.

I know, but I figure it's worth posting in the forums.

And you'd really be bummed? I root for the Cinderellas as much as anyone, but only if they show they've got what it takes. Christmas has not done that. Argue all you want about what he brings, he has not played well in the pre-season.

hey, at least Xmas got paid a few hundred thousand to study under JTerry all summer and get to play for Doc and travel to europe and asia.

Now he can sign a nice euro contract and still pocket his celtics half-season paycheck for 3 weeks of work.

Although i wonder if he would have preferred signing a more lucrative euro contract and avoided the embarrassment of getting cut from c's.

Yeah, but saying that is like saying, 'I don't care how you think he'll do in the playoffs. During batting practice he was terrible!'

I trust in Doc, but I liked what Christmas was bringing, and I'll be sorry we don't get to see him continue to develop.

Dude. He was a FRINGE player. His spot was up for grabs. NOW was the time to show he was worth the roster spot, that's what the pre-season is for when it comes to guys who have non-guaranteed contracts (or partially guaranteed). This was the time for Christmas to prove he had what it takes, and he didn't.

I've got a better comparison to the Christmas situation. Imagine you had a great non-romantic relationship with this girl. Things are just awesome you can totally be honest with her and she'll listen to everything, she's everything you've wanted in a girl. So, you decide that you should start dating her. Of course she agrees because she feels the same way about you, but unfortunately as you start dating her, you start to realize horrible things about this girl that you didn't know before and that you hate about her, and ultimately you realize you two are just not right for each other. Point is, this girl seemed awesome on a small scale when you two were just friends, just like Dionte looked great in the Summer League, but when you two took it to the next level, you realized she's just not compatible for you, just like Dionte is not ready to be a contributor to this team, so like the girl, you gotta break things off.

I don't know if I buy this.  For one thing, why didn't they cut the other camp invites as well?  And why would they not cut these guys last, to assign them to Portland?

Especially given the amount of games they have this week, this only really makes sense if they already have the guy who is going to fill the last roster spot.

Its the preseason. We're not cutting Fab Melo because he went 0-3 with 3 boards, 2 turnoevers, and 2 fouls. (also, guaransheed contract).

A lot of mind-boggling cuts and 'keepers' are done this time of year. Stephen Lasme gets let go despite an energetic and seemingly stellar preseason, but we keep Von Wafer? Its not always about how the games go, or even how good they actually seemed to do. Scouting beforehand, roster needs, lots of stuff go into it. Nobody cares about preseason games, or else Rodney Carney would be on guaranteed contracts every year.

Your analogy took 200 more words than you needed to, and kind of lost me. I'm married. What is this 'breaking things off' you speak of?

The only issue I have here would be if the Celtics went with an open roster spot to start the season.

If that's the case, why not keep Christmas around, if we're going to be paying him $250k regardless?

There's probably a good answer for that, though.  Like, for instance, we're filling the slot.

We're looking for a reliable insurance PG, and both Smith and Christmas have been abject failures, unfortunately. That's why we need the spot.

Exactly.  It doesn't make sense.  Not to mention, Rondo and Terry will be the only guys even resembling a PG for the 4 preseason games in 6 nights coming up...just doesn't pass for me.

Could be Christmas In and Smith/Joseph out.  You all heard it here first and don't pretend you didn't.

Problem is we have two roster spots and basically 5 guys trying out for them.

That means only one or two guys stay (depending on whether doc wants to keep a spot free) and the others go.

Thus far Joseph has been the most stable and "Celtic" like player in that group.  He's been wise in his shot selection, he's not committed a single turnover, and he's played like q guy who's happy to do the little things - the little things that we don't see in the box score, but the things that Doc sees right away.

Important thing is that when Joseph is out there you barely notice his presence because he doesn't try to show off, force things or act like something he's not.

Cutting Smith is something that was bound to happen - he jacks terrible shots, he can't hot those shots to save his life, he frequently turns the ball over by trying to force things, and can't run an offence. Those are the types of traits Doc hates in a player - guys who don't buy in to the team concept and try to play hero-ball.

Christmas getting cur doesn't surprise me because he played ultimately the same way as Smith - he just actually hot some shots.  He played the same brand of hero-ball and like I said Doc hates that with a passion.  He'd rather have a guy like Joseph who plays within himself, buys into the team concept, and doesnt try to play beyond his means.

Think about the amount of drama Doc has had with selfish players and guys with a wrong attitudes - big baby, delonte, etc.  The thing he was happiest about with our group last year was the selfishness and the professional attitude, that's why Joseph is in.

As for Melo he was always in.  Maybe that's why they are playing him less - they already know he's in and know  role on the team, so he needs less evaluation.  Fact with Melo is that while he is very raw offensively they can probably see that the talent and attitude is there, and they probably also love the great signs he shows on defense.  They know big athletic 7 footers don't grow on trees, plus he already has a guaranteed contract so considering all of the above why would they cut him?  Better to send him to the D-league and if we get hit by any bigman injuries (i.e. Darko) and get desperate he is a 7-foot, 260-pound insurance policy.

Yesterday I was thinking that out of the rookies I like Sully, Melo, Josepf most of all and don't mins Downs too...seems Doc might see the same.
