I hope we can all agree he's at least an upgrade from Jason Collins.  Can't hurt to have another big body to throw at Bynum when we play Philly.

I could see Darko being sort of a Krstic type. I didn't think that guy was so good and then he got here and when he left I missed him. He didn't make me forget about Perk but briefly he took some of the sting out
Darko is more mobile, less skilled version of Krstic. Probably a bit more of a banger though.

Krstic, however, was a much better player overall before he got injured.

I really hope we're not signing him with the expectation of playing 20 minutes per game, though.

Krstic was a skilled offensive player. Darko isn't.

Darko (offensively) is more like the broken down version of Jermaine O'Neal we had here in Boston.

That is actually a great comparison of him offensively.  Right down to the fact that he thinks he is much better than he is.  There are some skills there, but they just don't seem to come together at game speed offensively.

Defensively, I think he is also very similar to what Oneal was, on his better days in Boston.  Darko is more mobile (and Oneal is very mobile for a center, on the few days his knee was feeling OK), and a great weakside shotblocker, solid low post defender, but not great rebounder for his size.

The key with Darko (much like it was for Oneal) was getting him to just concentrate on defense, and be happy moving the ball, or occasionally taking a wide open shot on offense.  If he tries to do too much offensively, it will be bad news.

This better be for the vet min. Otherwise its just stupid.

Seems people are living in never-neverland with this guy.

Doesnt matter what team or situatiuon this guy is in, hes not gonna play better than his usual low level.

Hes a bum and always will be one.

Stop hoping for some miracle like some people did with hollins last season, these things dont happen, if your been a scrub your entire career your gonna stay a scrub, I cant believe people think otherwise.

flyofchange - so you don't think this is a win-win for BOS?

Darko IS here on the Vet Min, I believe.

I guess you can count me as one of those guys in "Never-Never Land" lol, about Darko.

J/K

The vast majority of Bigs to play here in BOS over the years have looked GOOD, at the very least, and helped the team:

1. JO - (Yes - when he was healthy).

2. Shaq - BOS looked unbeatable when he manned Center back in 10-11.

3. Perk - Next to KG he played well, despite his limitations.

4. Sheed - Granted, Sheed appeared to mail it in during the regular season, but he was key for us in the playoffs in 09-10.

5. Hollins - Yes, even with his limitations, he played well in spot minutes.

6. PJ Brown - I hated to see him retire. Loved his play.

7. Stiem - Hated to see him go, too. He played well in BOS.

I just don't think that Darko will come here and wash out. I'm optimistic about him.

Im happy for you if you can be optomistic about this guy.

All those players you listed have been at some point alot better or better than darko.

And believing that its for the vet min is not knowing is it?

Vet Min for Darko:

Quote
Darko Milicic and the Boston Celtics seems like … an odd fit. But, according to CSN New England, it's very real.

The veteran big man, waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves in July, will sign a one-year deal with the Celtics next week for the veteran's minimum, according to CSN.

His agent, Marc Cornstein, later confirmed the agreement to ESPN.com.

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2012-09-20/darko-milicic-celtics-2003-nba-draft-pistons-knicks-nicolas-batum-blazers

Ok, now i feel alittle better as long as he doesnt see the floor, after all we need someone to carry KGs bags and hand people towels and gatorade on the bench.

If hes starting by christmas hell has probably frozen over.

lol..C'mon man...Darko hasn't been THAT bad...I think we are looking at him through the spectrum of him being selected as the 2nd overall pick in the 2003? draft.

What "IF" he's starting by Christmas because he's earned it? And because BOS's winning ways have rubbed off on him, and because he's now on a contending team?

The game of Basketball is SO MUCH Mental. If you THINK you have an opportunity to play with a great team and organization that is playing well in May and June next year, that does wonders for most people. That makes some players want to give up more money overseas to come here (like Darko did).

"IF" Darko is starting by Christmas, then you can bet that KG will be happy, because he would more than likely move back to PF. While he is a bit older, I still think KG could play PF vs most opposing PFs in the league. And the few long and athletic PFs out there (LaMarcus and Bosh), aren't going to kill BOS on their own.

You could count me as one of the detractors of Darko coming here if he was in his 30's, but he is STILL in his prime. He now has the opportunity to reach whatever his potential is here in BOS.

Hes not a starting 5 in this league even if the 5 position is the weakest ever.

Ive got a better shot at winning the lottery than this guy has of turning out well on ANY team.

Hes a bum, period

Well, you just never know sometimes.

I think back to 86, and wondered why in the world would BOS try to sign a supposedly washed up, bad feet, plethora of injuries throughout his career - Bill Walton.

The man shockingly found the fountain of youth playing alongside great teammates, a great coach, and a great organization...I bet Bill Walton got some extra mojo from looking up at those banners, too.

I would've played the lottery back then, too - if someone would've told me that Bill would've been key for BOS and won the 6th man of the year back then, too.

Disclaimer -  ;D - I am NOT calling Darko Milicic the next Bill Walton, but again I can't count the man out, either.

You just never know sometimes. That Leprechaun can do wonders for some players.

the Darko signing is livable since he signed for the minimum, but if another team gets Birdman for the vet min??? i'll definitely be in the camp of those who will be saying "why didn't we get birdman instead?!"

if Doc is able to get pretty decent production out of darko-no-heart-lockerroom-cancer-milicic, then i think he should be coach of the year.

I guess stories of journeymen who have success never happen?

Anyone happen to catch the Giants and Andre Brown (7different teams) last night or last Sunday?

With Darko, Celtics will win 73 games. He's better than Howard.  For his size he is a combination of Acie Earl and Greg Kite.  Can't wait to see him dominate.

Darko has been in the league for 10 years and his best year by far was his 3rd season in the league.  He is what he is.

I absolutely LOVE Celtics Fans...I really do.

Most of us here thought Avery Bradley was going to wash out, too.......including me.

Boy was I wrong on that one.

Opportunity and Confidence can do wonders for most players.

Shall we wait for him to play a full season before we annoint him the second coming of Joe Dumars?

Also, I don't think videos embedded in signatures are a good idea.

A bit of a tangent, but I am really worried that the expectations of Bradley have gotten WAY out of hand.  He had a nice run, as he was essentially hidden and ignored offensively.  But teams really didn't have a whole lot of time to adjust to him.

He is a prime candidate for a major sophomore slump, and I have a feeling if he does, the fan backlash is going to be much stronger than it should be...and I just hope he is prepared to deal with that added pressure.

On the other hand, Darko is coming in with very little overall expectations, and has nowhere to go but up.  Hopefully it helps loosen him up.

I am looking at what "Could happen" rather than looking at "Worst Case" scenarios...I don't give up on some players before they suit up.

I'm optimistic that most people, whether professional Basketball, football, whatever their profession in life - can succeed IF given an opportunity and the right surroundings.

Call me glass half full, man.

For a while it did look like Avery wasn't going to make it.  But the difference between Avery and Darko is that Avery had no body of work to look at.  Darko has a huge body of work.  He has been in the league far longer than Rondo and Bass.  And it's not like he has more opportunity here.  He has been on some teams where he has had a chance to be one of the main guys.  He has eventually dissappointed every team he has been on.  And not only in terms of skills, but in terms of effort and focus.
