If the Celtics need to add a reserve point guard, I would rather bring in a couple of D-Leaguers to compete for the job in training camp than sign someone like Derek Fisher.

I'd rather let Terry play as the backup PG until Avery get's back then let them share ball handling responsibilities with the second unit. I'd also like to see what Christmas can do, I know the kid can shoot and space the floor nicely but I THINK he could be capable of being a backup PG.

Christmas? come on...he is a D leaguer who will never get off the bench if he makes the team. No chance he suddenly turns into a viable option at PG

I don't think they will have a traditional PG when Rondo is out of the game.  They will run the ball a lot more through the post, and go to more of a ball movement offense.  I think you will see guys like KG, Pierce, Jeff Green, and potentially even Sully, being the facilitators in the high and low post.  Almost like the Princeton offense.

On opening day, your backcourt consists of Rondo, Terry, and Courtney Lee.

Your third string PG/SG is either Smith or Christmas. And then you have no-one. This is simply not enough. Especially given we have no solid grasp of how long Bradley will be out, or what he will look like when he's finally back.

Yeah I guess that is a short rotation and projects Lee and Terry averaging 30+ a game which might not be ideal to start the season.

Wish we had a better grasp on Bradley situation. No idea when he will be able to come back and how much rust he will have. We (including me) are putting a lot of weight into a very young guy coming back from injury who is still fairly unproven

Worst case scenario, Bradley is out/hurt/unproductive.

In that case Lee is starting and our backup "PG" will be playing most of his minutes with Terry.

You need someone who can set up the offense, and is big enough to cross-match on D. Christmas fills the bill there in theory, but we will have to see what he really brings to the table.

But I think these other guys like Flynn, Bibby, Fisher etc. are all too small, and terrible defensively. Who covers Wade?

I'm not worried about bradley getting pg minutes with pierce around, rondo goes out pierce can easily run an offense.
I don't think we need to rush to sign anyone, let christmas see what he can do for training camp/start of season as a 3rd string pg (what 5 minutes a game?).  Once bradley is back, rondo,bradley and terry is good pg depth. Leave the space open for a buyout vet etc.

3-5, unless the guy used to play for the Celtics. Then, 10.

In that vein I just found myself Googling Orien Greene. That is how slim the PG pickings are right now.
