I really think there is a good chance the C's make a trade for a legit big man by the trade deadline.

I think the main parts going out would likely be Avery Bradley and Jeff Green, possible Lee or Bass.

If someone like Josh Smith or Big Al/millsap become available , what would you be willing to give up?

If it's Josh Smith I would give up Bradley and Green plus filler(plus pick )

for Big AL I would give up Bass and Green(maybe a pick)

I think there is about a 50/50 chance for a trade for a big man, I prefer Smith.

So what do you think the chances are that the c's make a trade for a big man mid-season ?

Would be a lot more interested in Big Al than Smith.

At least Big Al has shown a lot of heart and is kind of a leader on his team even if they aren't that great.

I just think essentially since this is the window this is it. It will depend on where we stand vs other teams

I would say all of the options are too high.  I think even a team in transition is less than 24% likely to make a big midseason trade, let alone a team that is trying to compete.

I do think they have a decent amount of pieces that could potentially be moved, but those things are just so hard to actually make happen.  I would say maybe 5% chance.

I think Avery Bradley and Jeff Green are probably the most likely trade pieces (and JG can't be traded until like Jan or something now anyways), followed by Sully, Melo and KJ.

But I'd be surprised if Bradley were traded; he's not going to play until Jan, he'll have about a month until the trade deadline, and while a lot of us as fans are sold that he's gonna be the hottest thing to hit the NBA since Dennis Rodman wore a wedding dress, most people are probably more prone to a 'wait n see' approach.

I think now, if there were a large mid-season trade, it'll be Rondo and/or Pierce who go, because Garnett has suffered a large injury and for some reason Danny doesn't want to rebuild with Rondo as the corner piece.

Yep, that sounds about right for me too. Odds on the poll far too high. 5% seems like a good number. I think the odds are very small that Danny swings a trade for another star quality player this season.

I'd also add that I think the odds are a lot higher for a medium sized (role players) trade. They could be in the 50-50 region. The target probably a starter quality (but not star quality) big man. The package likely something to do with Courtney Lee or Brandon Bass plus additional sweeteners.

If we do trade for power forward or any big man, I would want it to be a legit big man and not like an undersized player at PF or C. Josh Smith could be an exception but unless we are getting an epic super star who is a little undersized (Around 6'8 or 6'9), I don't want to trade. Would rather receive a 6'10, 6'11 or maybe 7'0 PF, than another under-sized player who will have trouble defending taller players.

Anything is possible, but I think there would have to be a significant injury to the Celtics (or maybe some other team) that would force either team involved in the trade to be a bit desperate.

On paper, the Celtics are pretty set going into this season, though I'm sure they'd love to upgrade the higher end of the roster even if it meant sacrificing some depth.

The problem I see that is our most valuable trade pieces are Rondo, Bradley, Green, and, if he has a good start to the year, Sullinger.

Rondo is a cornerstone, so the trade would have to be a major upgrade (e.g. Chris Paul) to be worthwhile, and I don't think there are any names out there likely to be traded this year of that caliber.  Green could up his value with a really bounce-back year coming off heart surgery, but his contract is likely to look fairly untradable for a while.  As for Bradley and Sullinger, they'd have to be combined with some bigger contracts to be traded for anybody significant, and that again would implicate somebody like Rondo, Pierce, or Garnett.

I think it's possible a smaller trade could happen involving, some combination of Courtney Lee, Bradley, and / or Sullinger (or perhaps Jeff Green if he really looks great to start he year).

Still, I think Danny will probably stand pat unless somebody suffers a major injury (e.g. Terry or Bass is out for the year).

Anyway, the only trade possibilities I can think of are Big Al and Josh Smith, both of whom could fit next to KG and be a major upgrade for us in the rebounding and interior scoring department.  Both could also be available well before mid-season.  But the cost would probably be pretty high.
We need not to be let alone. We need to be really bothered once in a while. How long is it since you were really bothered? About something important, about something real?

Slim to none.

Big3 are untouchable. Ainge will never get equal value in return. Next in line is Lee, Green, Bass, and Terry; Ainge recently signed these players. So what would be point to trade them in matter of months. It takes one to two years to evaluate new crop of Free Agents to see how they mesh. Then you got Avery who is big part of this team's future. He has two years remaining on his rookie contract. Avery is a Cheap asset with star potential.

Leaves us with bottom of the roster guys: 4 Rookies (need time to evaluate the rookies), and Quality Min Vets: Dooling, Wilcox, Collins.

Giving up green in addition for smith is something that will never happen, and isn't necessary for acquiring him

Not happening, unless this team falls apart and people want out.  You don't trade players you signed to 3 and 4 year deals in the first year of the contract -- not unless you don't want free agents to sign with you in the future.  I suppose there's always the Rondo-for-Paul swap that will forever tantalize some of the people on these boards.  But unless one of the recent signees gets mad about playing time and wants to move (a small chance) or the team is just not good (also a small chance), there will be no major deal.

Depending how things go, I could see Bradley being shipped out for a young big man also on his rookie contract, but I'm not sure how "big" a deal that would be.  Otherwise, you'll likely see Christmas and/or Joseph traded to clear roster space for a mid-season signing, or whichever (if any) of Dooling, Wilcox, and Collins are injured.  But Josh Smith isn't walking through that door, at least mid-season.

People are quick to say "will never get equal value in return", but why not?

We could get a lot of value for both Rondo and KG considering how good they are and their reasonable contracts.

Pierce is the tough one due to the amount of money due him at this point in his career.

Wow, everyone almost feels that no big trade happens. Personally I feel this team has to make one or it wont really have a legitamate shot at a title. I am not talking about well, if we get by Miami and the Lakers happen to have an injury.

If this team is going to 'win' a title this year it has to have an impact big! We saw a couple of years ago how the Lakers killed us on the boards and took over game 7. KG may have been injured some and Perk was out but do you think KG will get many rebounds from DH? Ya, I feel a trade has to be made to make this team as competitive as it needs to be. That all being said- I hope I am wrong.

I'm with you. The C's definitely need another legit big to be able to contend for a title, especially with D12 now on the Lakers.

I think it would be a great idea to sign Matt Barnes because it would still allow us to have depth at the wing position with Lee,Terry and Barnes, allowing the c's to trade Bradley and Green without giving up too much depth off the bench.

Josh Smith has to be the main target after mentioning last year that he loves the c's crowd and being relly good friends with Rondo. Smith has shown he can guard KG , so I think he could definitely stay with Pau Gasol and Bosh while letting KG lock down the centers.
