Quote
“Rajon Rondo recently said that he’s the NBA’s top point guard. What are your thoughts on that, and where do you think you rank among all the point guards in the NBA?”
Mario Chalmers: “He’s not the best, but he’s in the top five. There are a lot of great point guards in the league, Deron Williams, Chris Pauland Steve Nash. There are a lot of great guards in the NBA so for him to say he’s the best is a pretty bold statement. I’d say that I [Mario Chalmers] am in the front end of the top 10.”

I don't have a problem with Chalmers comments except for him thinking he's top 10. Really, Mario?? Talk about bold. There's so many PG's ahead of Mario. Hmmm... Not in order, but...

Rondo, Rose, Williams, Paul, Nash, Westbrook, Parker, Irving, J.Wall, R.Rubio, J.Kidd, A.Miller, T.Evans, J.Nelson, G.Dragic, C.J. Watson, D.Harris, B.Jennings, T. Lawson, J.Holiday, J.Teague, J. Calderon and I can keep going...

Chalmers is smart to say that Rajon Rondo is not the best point guard in the NBA. He understands the hard work it takes to earn such an honor, and Rondo certainly isn't there yet.

If Chalmers wants to be the NBA's top point guard by the time he retires though he's going to have to either leave the Miami Heat, to be a more central talent to his team, or he's going to have to help turn the Heat's "Big Three" into the "Big Four."

Appearently, Rondo doesn't work hard. Wow. This is a blogger from Bleacher Report so take this article with a grain of salt. But what do u guys think?

The debate continues.  Based on last year's playoff performances, Rondo clearly is the best PG in the league.  I know that other elite PGs didn't get a chance to play in the playoffs, but the playoffs is where your greatness is measured.

We can debate who the best PG is all day, but one thing is for sure - Chalmers is delusional.  In the front end of the top ten... ha, good one.  I guess that championship went straight to his head.

Also, I wouldn't read too much into that second quote - I don't think that Chalmers or the author was insinuating that Rondo doesn't work hard, the article was just poorly written.

Therefore Chris Paul is better because he has a jumpshot...

Hey so speaking of "best Point guard" debate isn't next year a pretty defining moment for this? I'm throwing out Nash or guys like Irving, Rubio, Wall. The cream of the crop right now is:

Rondo
Paul
Williams
Westbrook
Parker

Rose-injured

Maybe I'm missing someone but those are pretty much the big boys right? And can't we all agree that pretty much all of those guys will be playing on a level playing field? They all (minus Rose) are healthy and they all have lots of talent on their respective teams.

I think next year will be a defining moment in a lot of these guys careers. It will probably continue to confuse us all even more but I wouldn't be surprised if Williams and Paul both take a step back unless people still continue to make excuses for them (injuries, new teams, not enough talent)

Mario couldn't start for Kentucky........... he is a cheap scrub on team that can't afford a real point guard.  Three guys take up all their salary

Rather have E. Moore.

Rondo is closer to being the best in the league than Chalmers is to being a top 10 PG

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
This is how I see things.

Tier 1 (Possibly #1 PG):
Rondo
Rose
Paul

Tier 2 (Possibly Top 5 PG):
Williams
Westbrook
Parker
Nash

Tier 3 (Possibly Top 10 PG):
Irving
Wall
Lawson
Curry
Dragic
Rubio
Holiday
Jennings
Lowry
Conley
Lin

Tier 4 (Starting PG caliber):
Billups
Kidd
Nelson
Miller
Calderon
Sessions
Teague
Felton
Collison
Harris
Williams
Augustin
Etc.

Chalmers isn't even the best player in Tier 4...

Jason Kidd didn't have a jump-shot either, but he turned out to fine. He's only a future hall of famer, but whatever.

I'm positive he's kidding.

Kidd had already developed a decent jumper when he went superstar status, though.

Mario put on a brave, proud face.

In truth Rajon is this guy's worst nightmare. How many times has R2 absolutely obliterated him?

how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck was chris bosh?

I would say Harris is a tier 3 point guard. The guy was a star in 09 and should definitely have a rebound year. Plus he has Horford and Smith at his disposal.

Maybe as a followup he could discuss what Brandon Bass needs to do if he wants to be the best pf in the league and what Jeff Green needs to do to be the best sf in the league. That advice would cement our future as contenders for years to come.
