I think Cody Zeller won't be the #1 pick.

Way too early for predicting the number one for 2013. Probably 10 viable candidates and a few unheard of's that all have a shot.

Very true. Before the college season a few years ago, Derrick Williams was projected as a late first/second rounder, and he went 2nd overall in 2011 (Weak draft, but the point reigns true).

Perhaps not, but I've lately seen drafts where Zeller remains at #1 and the rankings below him shuffle around.

My point is the game is a good example of Sullinger vs an elite ranked center with more length than Sullinger.

In these dog days of summer, I'm interested in learning as much about our draft picks as I can.

Check out the pass at 15:50. The NBA is more spread out, so Sullinger is going to have lots of passing lanes to exploit from inside or outside.

I still need to finish watching the game, not even sure if Sullinger had a good game or not.

Here's the 2nd half of the game. Sullinger got his 2nd foul with 10 minutes left in the 1st half and sat out the rest of the half. The same thing happened against Syracuse in the Elite 8.

Sullinger in the first two trips down the floor draws two quick fouls on Zeller to start the 2nd half.

No doubt Sullinger knows how to get to the line and that will be of value to us in the coming seasons. Just a matter of getting him the ball in a good position. I wonder that his lack of lift may make him more suceptible to blocks deep in the post?

It definitely will, but the Celtics don't need him to be their go-to scorer. I think Sullinger will be the ultimate role player, with the additional ability to step up his scoring inside or out should the need arise at some point.

The rebounding boost is going to be huge, and Sullinger will pick up the defense very easily. He plays great heads up defense when his man doesn't have the ball, and he plays great positional defense when his man has the ball.

He's going to get exploited on pick-and-rolls and when faster PFs draw him away from the basket, but his defense is pretty good otherwise.

He has 0 HOPS, Guy can barely get off the ground

He has good positioning on rebounding

passed out the double team pretty well

THATS IT...hes gonna be a below average player if he doesnt improve many parts of his game

35:00 - 2 minutes left, Sullinger establishes post position vs 7 foot Zeller, muscles him up, gets the basket and the foul.

A lot of bigs in the league right now are built like Cody Zeller. When Sullinger gets low, he can move these guys around at will. As a smart guy, Sullinger will only get better at it, as he plays more against NBA level players.

Practicing against KG is going to be great training for him, since he'll have to be real crafty to create shots for himself.

Zeller is a freshman here, and weighs close to nothing, i can push him out of the paint. He is really weak on defense here.

Zeller also easily scores on Sullinger at the 34 minute mark with a weak move where sullinger doesnt even jump.

Sullinger was in foul trouble.

No, that's not it.  You forgot some things:
-Excellent hands and good touch
-Polished post moves; good footwork
-Very high basketball IQ
-Low turnover rate
-Decent outside shot that will only improve
-Very strong, knows how to use his body to create space and get shots off

Of course he needs to improve.  He's a rookie.  He will struggle against bigger size matchups in the NBA, but everyone has trouble against size, even the premiere big men.

He's not a highly athletic player, but he doesn't need to be to be effective.  Just look at Zach Randolph, Luis Scola, and Kevin Love.  Don't write him off just because he isn't athletic.  He knows how to play high level basketball.

I'm keeping my expectations realistic, but I have a great feeling about this guy.  He will help our team down the road in multiple ways (if he stays healthy, obviously), of that I can guarantee.

On topic, try not to overanalyze one collegiate basketball game.  It's much too small a sample size to draw conclusions about player abilities.

Here's another game, vs Michigan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW3sXc9FCEI

Great running hook shot at 25:00

More worrisome is the play at 22:50. Sullinger is going to be targeted like this off the dribble by NBA PFs quite a bit.

Playing alongside a shot blocker like Garnett or Melo seems to make much more sense than playing alongside Wilcox, Bass, or Green. A Sullinger/Melo frontcourt probably won't ever be a good combo vs certain line-ups with quick PFs.
