As far as I know, pietrus is still available. Nobody has signed him and we are two months away from the start of the nba season. Why wont he just take the veterans minimum or biannual exception and come back to the celtics? Seriously, who is he holding out for?

Who says the Celtics have offered him either?  I think he'd be a Celtic, if they had.

You know who could've used him but screwed it up is the Lakers. Now they're already paying Artest and Barnes, and the small upgrade over both that is a healthy peaches doesn't equal the combined cost.

Do the Lakers even have Matt Barnes anymore?

I think Matt Barnes left the team this summer. I have heard very little about him though. I haven't seen him linked to any other teams. No idea why he isn't getting more attention. He has every other summer for the past 5 years or so. Played pretty well for LA too.

  • I agree, the Lakers would be an excellent home for Pietrus. Pietrus would be a great option behind Artest.
  • So would Oklahoma ... get rid of Daequan Cook from their rotation and give them a legit defender/shooter on the wing.
  • I think Dallas would be a good situation for Pietrus too. Play behind Shawn Marion. Maybe some minutes alongside one another an imposing physical defensive wing combo. Or even with Marion going PF and Pietrus SF in a quicker lineup while Dirk gets his rest.
  • LA Clippers would be a good home too. Instantly be the Clips best two guard. No more of those stupid undersized backcourts which are limiting their team's potential. It looks like they have other plans at the two though with Chauncey Billups and Jamal Crawford.
  • Maybe Brooklyn or New York. Good backup SG for Joe Johnson. Give them a different option to Mirza Teletovic when they go small with G-Wallace at PF. I'd think with Pietrus' shooting ability, he'd be a better fit in New York than Ronnie Brewer (given their spacing concerns).
  • If Pietrus can't latch onto a good role on a title contender, I think Minnesota could be a very good situation for him. They need someone dependable at shooting guard. A known entity. A strong defender.
  • I'd also like to see him in Philly as a replacement for either J-Rich or N.Young. I don't like them as a 1-2 punch at SG. Don't complement one another well.
  • More of a borderline playoff team again but Washington would be a really good situation. Pietrus could start there at SF. Beal at SG. Wall at PG. Nene and Okafor in the paint. The Wizards badly need a shooter at SF. Bring Ariza off the bench.

Because his agent said that the celtics offered him the minimum and he wouldnt take it because he is "not a veterans minimum player"

No minutes for Birdman here either. Not sure what need he fills. Seventh big man perhaps?

And Oden is out for the season, as far as I recall.

What Pietrus' agent said was that he would not sign for the minimum.  It's his job to say that, and that was a month ago.  Both Mickael and his agent may be getting more desperate by now.

McCandless, however, never specifically said that the Celtics had offered Pietrus any deal.

Who is taking Birdman's minutes? Chris Wilcox? Melo? Neither are comparable defenders. Wilcox might be the best option, but Doc would find minutes for Birdman.

And Oden has waffled considerably on his 'taking a year off' stance. He's revisiting it in Jan or Feb.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1271637-report-mickael-pietrus-likely-too-expensive-for-boston-celtics

In the article his agent says that pietrus had much better offers than what the celtics were offering, which must mean, he was offered the minimum by the celtics. The whole point of my post was to say that since he is still unsigned, maybe he will accept the minimum from the celtics. I, mostly like him for his defense if nothing else.

I don't think Birdman's really a good defender, more of a "chase the balland go for a block" guy than a "show at least a modicum of discipline" guy.
