Glad this appears to be done.  I like Green as a player and he seems like a great teammate.  Good for the future of our C's.

Also, I am fine with the deal, both in years and in money.  We are basically telling Rondo: you will always have talent surrounding you, we will pay for it.  Rondo, Green, Lee, Sully, Bass give us a prime-age nucleus that in the East would probably be a playoff team on its own, and with KG and Pierce and Terry on it we are dangerous.

I've never been a fan of Green's - not related to Perk, but because I don't like 'tweeners (I feel the same about Antawn Jamison, Al Harrington, Michael Beasley, etc.).

I know the trend is towards small ball, but when we face Miami, can he guard LeBron or Bosh?  What about Hawes or Bynum in Philly.

He's great as a 2nd unit scoring option - but at 9 million bucks per year, he is going to be a 30-35 minute guy.

My hope is that Fab is the real deal, becomes a starter and Rookie of the Year candidate.

I guess I'm glad for this resolution.

There's just one thing I'm confused about.

How in the world does an unproven guy who's coming off of heart surgery command 4 years/$36 mil? It seems as if the worlds gone crazy

Have I completely missed something here or what......???

I know Ainge has loved Green for years (and I admit to some Perkins bitterness), but he's a 16/6 PF on an already soft rebounding team.

It's official. Here's a link to a story about his signing on the Celtics.com.

I really hope Jeff Green turns out to be the player we just said he is with a 4 year 36 million dollar contract. He is now making money comparable to Rajon Rondo, but will we see the performance and numbers to justify it?

Time will tell, we already have a strong roster on paper. If he is the level of player Danny has paid him to be then we are gonna be very dangerous this season.

I for one am not ready to call this contract a bad deal until we truly see who the real Jeff Green is. I know just as well as anyone that Green disappointed in his 1/2 season with the Celtics, but he went from being the undersized 4 (which he was terrible at doing) on an easy-going team to being the back-up 3 on a nasty, focused veteran core that had just lost one of its glue players. I think our problem was that we had built such a good relationship with Perk and loved the intangibles that he brought that we wanted Jeff to not just match Perk's production, but to exceed it as well. Believe it or not, as a pro, that can be very hard to adjust to.

This year, we're gonna find out who the real Jeff Green is. Is he going to be the athletic wing who can run the floor with Rondo, the guy who can hold ground against Lebron/Durant, and can play the 4 in small-ball

OR

Will he be the overhyped, overpaid wing who's clearly not suited for a prime role on a championship team, who can't fit on a defensive-oriented squad, who struggles to find scoring opportunities, who overall just doesn't fit?

I think the Celtics clearly believe that Green can be what pushes this team to the top because he brings certain intangibles to the team that it didn't have as much of last season.

I seriously can't wait to see the run-and-gun group of Rondo-Bradley-Lee-Green-Wilcox. That team is all just pure athleticism and speed. Im guessing 95% of that five's points are fast break.

Overall, Green is our X factor. He's a tweener forward whose certain qualities make him match-up favorably with the Heat. I seriously can't wait to watch him catch Rondo's alleys this year.

I think Rondo is underpaid. He's a max guy or very close to it. We just have him on a very attractive contract, which I chalk up to another great piece of foresight on Ainge's part.

As for Green, I think he's eventually an 18 and 6-7 board guy on this team. He doesn't have to be Pierce's replacement at SF in the sense of being a franchise guy down the road. But he can be Pierce's replacement at SF - with other Franchise guys "around him" at other positions - Rondo, and another max worthy player at OG, Center or PF...

In OKC he was playing out of position on an uptempo team with two ball dominant players and no real play maker anywhere near the level of Rondo.

Look for him to benefit greatly by having a training camp under his belt, learning the defense from day one and learning to work with Rondo getting him the ball where needed.

He should easily exceed his career average outputs in points and rebounds on this roster if the minutes are carved out for him.

if he doesn't get heavy minutes because Pierce is healthy and chewing up minutes, he will still be worth the money because he'll be a "legitimate" back up for Pierce that can give him quality rest throughout the season. This is "huge" come playoff time to have a rested Paul Pierce - just like with KG.

I'd love to see a 5-5-5 program for Pierce this year - he's played a lot of hard minutes in his time in Boston.

We may not have the biggest name players on our team, but an argument can be made that we have a shot at having the "best team" when it's all said and done - and that might be enough to get #18.

Again, when is the first game?

Everybody ignores that fact when they're talking about how Rondo sucks compared to Chris Paul.

Bleh. I'm just gonna support my favorite team and the players who I like, like Jeff Green and Rondo...and KG and Pierce and the Jet...and pretty much everyone on the team now. Their love for the team is priceless.

My hope is that Fab is the real deal, becomes a starter and Rookie of the Year candidate.

Fab may be the "real deal," but the only place he's starting this year, barring multiple injuries, is Portland.  I don't think the Celtics have any expectation of him playing a large role this season.  Sullinger, they do expect to be useful, but I think they'd be more than happy if Melo came around midway through year 2.

I know the trend is towards small ball, but when we face Miami, can he guard LeBron or Bosh?  What about Hawes or Bynum in Philly.

He proved he can guard LeBron about as well as anyone two years ago in the playoffs.  His status as a tweener is perfect here, since LeBron is essentially a tweener too.

As for Philly, there is a bit of a mismatch issue, but consider this:

1) He'd be guarding Hawes.

2) When has Hawes ever posted anyone up with great success?

3) If the Sixers want to run their offense through Hawes instead of Bynum to "exploit" Green, this is a huge advantage for us.

4) How in the world is Hawes going to guard Green?  This would be the bigger mismatch.  Green will be running circles around him, breaking him down off the dribble and running yards ahead of him on a Rondo-led break.

Remember, small ball mismatches work both ways.  Remember when Jim O'Brien successfully turned the Rodney Rogers/Dikembe Mutombo center matchup into a positive for the Celtics back in the early 2000s?
