First, Sam Amick tweeted this:

Quote from: Sam Amick
@sam_amick
A bit of free agency housecleaning: The agent for forward Jeff Green, David Falk, told me ...

... last night that the four-year deal with Boston worth approximately $36 million should finally be formalized "in the next day or two...We just had some sort of technical and (salary cap) issues that were holding it up. Nothing serious." I'd reported in early July that I was hearing the deal was in the neighborhood of four years, $40 million and it wasn't too far off. So considering he's seen as a key piece of the semi-revamped Boston club, Celtics fans, do you like the addition or is it too pricey considering Jeff's health history?

Minutes later, Green tweeted this:

Quote from: Jeff Green
@unclejeffgreen
FINALLY!!!

Then Celtics.com made it official. Link to the post below:

Jeff Green also just tweeted "FINALLY" without any other context, so ...maybe?

so what exactly are the salary cap issues? is that like how much we wanted to give him in the first year, second, etc?

I think so. Depending on how much we gave him in the first few years, our ability to use the full MLE on Terry could change. Obviously, we want to use the whole thing.

I was hoping for a deal with a heavier backside so we could pick up another center. Hmmm. What's up your sleeve Danny?

why would we need a center? KG was one of the best centers in the game last year... and we have 2 back up c's with collins and melo.

in a game where 90% of teams play a power forward at center, why would we need a center?

This is true.  And I'd add Wilcox to the list of backup centers too.

And I'd also get used to the idea of KG playing the 5 and Green playing the 4 at the end of games and probably even more.  And that shouldn't shock anyone, as the C's have run units smaller than that as far back as '08 when Posey and KG went 4/5 to close out games.

Also, regardless of the money, I think Jeff Green has the potential to be a huge X-factor for us here.  If he can take the next step, Terry's bold predictions can potentially become reality.  I really think a full season in a Rondo-led offense that doesn't have players who dominate the ball like Durant and Westbrook will have very positive effects on his game.

Glad this appears to be done.  I like Green as a player and he seems like a great teammate.  Good for the future of our C's.

Also, I am fine with the deal, both in years and in money.  We are basically telling Rondo: you will always have talent surrounding you, we will pay for it.  Rondo, Green, Lee, Sully, Bass give us a prime-age nucleus that in the East would probably be a playoff team on its own, and with KG and Pierce and Terry on it we are dangerous.

I guess I'm glad for this resolution.

There's just one thing I'm confused about.

How in the world does an unproven guy who's coming off of heart surgery command 4 years/$36 mil? It seems as if the worlds gone crazy

Have I completely missed something here or what......???

100% agree mctyson and to the young core of Rondo, Green, Lee, Bass and Sully I would also add Melo, Joseph and Bradley.

So I would list our young nucleus as:

Melo
Bass / Sullinger
Green / Joseph
Lee / Bradley
Rondo

And would then argue, that:

1. Possibly 3 of those players will become truly special at their positions - that is, Sullinger, Bradley and Rondo (who already is special...)

2. And that the others - Melo, Green, Lee, Bass & Joseph - either already are solid contributors on a championship level team (Bass, Green & Lee) or will prove to be decent role players on a good team(Melo & Joseph).

3. That if you add a max contract or two at the positions needed, to the above young nucleus above, you could very well have a legit championship contender.

I think, given decent health, we're going to suprise a lot of people this year and next. And we are very well primed with youth moving forward.

Excellent job Danny Ainge.

KG / Collins / Melo
Bass / Wilcox / Sully
Pierce / Green / Joseph
Lee / Bradley / Christmas
Rondo / Jet / Dooling

I'm ready...
