I don't think the Celtics are that hated. Perhaps 2008-2011 they were hated due to being on top, but not last year and not the years before, including the first season of KG.
If you notice people hating a lot, you might have something to do with that.
Considering how much hating Celtics fans do of other teams, we should expect fans everywhere can be like that. A common theme is "if you can't beat them, hate them".
It's funny though because I only mention other teams in a negative light when fans of other teams bash the Celtics. As much as I hate the Lakers, I still respect them and their legacy. I hate their fans more than the actual franchise itself. I recognize the rivalry for what it is, but at the end of the day I think
sensible fans from both sides do have a certain admiration for the opposing side.
I swear I could just mention the Celtics in a general NBA discussion and they either get discredited or some homer Heat fan talks about how irrelevant they are or how they aren't even a threat or how they've only won 1 championship in recent years which puts them on the same level as Miami.
Don't get me wrong, I have a competitive nature about me and I loveee to talk smack during games and during the season, but I never blatantly disrespect a team unless I'm doing it out of defense of my favorite team.
It might actually have something to do with me being a female as well. A lot of guys are actually intimidated by me and my knowledge of not only the Celtics, but the game itself. It's not normal. Often times, they try to talk down on me because they don't expect me to be able to defend my team because they assume I'm just some cutesy fan who watches basketball to get in with the guys. They get a bit befuddled when I spit them knowledge of the Celtics prior to 2008 and of the NBA of all eras. Instead of having an mature, intellectual debate with me, they choose to try to belittle the Celtics and any of their achievements.
