I like the hate, if we stunk nobody would think twice about us.  They hate us because they want to be/beat us, that's what I think.

Plus I find that we are often chosen by the typical NBA fan as the lesser of two evils.  Everyone in the world was rooting for the C's when they faced the Heat.  That's my measuring stick of how much people dislike our team.  As long as they hate teams like the Heat more I'll take it.

I notice more hatred towards Boston in general than the Celtics.  Sox fans in particular have a much worse reputation than Celtics fans.

But seriously, we should not complain about people hating the C's.  At least they are relevant.

Do you think any Bucks fan has ever heard the same question?  Or Wolves, Jazz, Warriors or Nuggets?

I can understand the hate for KG but outside of him i am dumb founded at the league wide hate towards the Celtics. I'd say we're the second most hated team in the league outside of the Heat.

Seriously how can anyone hate Paul Pierce and Doc Rivers?

I don't get how you can understand the hate for KG, but not Pierce?

He's a cocky trash talker with a reputation for flopping and a game that doesn't lead to a lot of highlight reel plays.  I think Pierce might actually enjoy getting hated by other teams' fans.

KG, Pierce and Rondo all relish the hate of other team's fans.

I became a serious fan in 1966-67 as a child. Even in the early 70's, the Cowens Havlicek White teams weren't hated they were more underestimated than hated. Then I didn't feel hated so much in the 80's because we were underdogs frequently to LA though that was dubious it did happen. We were often not favorites. Since first connecting with me in 67 I don't know when we were ever favorites but we have won 8 title since I first started paying close attention as a fan. In the late 60's everyone loved LA then it was Milwaukee, NY and Baltimore and LA in the early 70's.
of course we are underrated all over again the last 5 years

I don't think the Celtics are that hated. Perhaps 2008-2011 they were hated due to being on top, but not last year and not the years before, including the first season of KG.

If you notice people hating a lot, you might have something to do with that.

Considering how much hating Celtics fans do of other teams, we should expect fans everywhere can be like that. A common theme is "if you can't beat them, hate them".

  • GOT IT!!!

-The Celtics make it to the ECF and are 6 min away from ousting the 2012 NBA Champions; Translation: The East is weak, they would've never made it had Josh Smith, Al Horford, or Derrick Rose had been healthy, the Celtics wouldn't have sniffed the Conference Finals had they been in the West.

This is what really bugs me the most. I've seen it from fans on this very site as well.

Sure the C's caught some breaks but you cannot bring up injures and not mention those the C's had.

It's funny though because I only mention other teams in a negative light when fans of other teams bash the Celtics. As much as I hate the Lakers, I still respect them and their legacy. I hate their fans more than the actual franchise itself. I recognize the rivalry for what it is, but at the end of the day I think sensible fans from both sides do have a certain admiration for the opposing side.

I swear I could just mention the Celtics in a general NBA discussion and they either get discredited or some homer Heat fan talks about how irrelevant they are or how they aren't even a threat or how they've only won 1 championship in recent years which puts them on the same level as Miami.

Don't get me wrong, I have a competitive nature about me and I loveee to talk smack during games and during the season, but I never blatantly disrespect a team unless I'm doing it out of defense of my favorite team.

It might actually have something to do with me being a female as well. A lot of guys are actually intimidated by me and my knowledge of not only the Celtics, but the game itself. It's not normal. Often times, they try to talk down on me because they don't expect me to be able to defend my team because they assume I'm just some cutesy fan who watches basketball to get in with the guys. They get a bit befuddled when I spit them knowledge of the Celtics prior to 2008 and of the NBA of all eras. Instead of having an mature, intellectual debate with me, they choose to try to belittle the Celtics and any of their achievements.
