It's not out of realm of possibility Doc starts Fab Melo alongside Garnett. I'm counting on the fact Garnett the miracle worker. He made Ryan Hollins look decent which was a miracle. Doc will give Melo a small role with couple of tasks: Defend, Offensive rebound, and Take Charges. I think Fab Melo can be a difference maker on defense. An intimidator who blocks a lot of shots, and alters a lot more shots inside. And when he isn't blocking shots, he takes charges. Those small intangibles can be the difference in winning and losing.

PF: Garnett/Bass
-C: Melo/Sullinger

If I accept your notion that KG is not going to be starting at center (which I don't, really), why should Melo start over Wilcox?

Not a chance.

KG is the starting C.

I could see Sullinger eventually taking over as starting PF over Bass, but not Melo.  To much of a project.

I'd be more than shocked  if Melo could get up to speed that quickly. Perk had four NBA seasons and 200+ games experience when he started for the first time alongside KG.

If Melo can get ready that quickly, it will be a miracle, and the Cs would be much better.  I'm not holding my breath.  I'll settle for 6 minutes of competent inside play each half as a steady rotation guy from Melo.

Now, if you want to make the argument that if Melo is going to play 12 mpg, it might as well be as a starter for the 1st and 3rd quarters alongside KG, I can see that.

"Shocked" is not a strong enough word to describe how I'd react to finding out Fab Melo was our starting Center considering I don't think he'll even come close to sniffing the floor this year.

I'm afraid shock would be the most positive of the possible reactions.  Angry would be an option.  Despair would be another (if Melo's starting, what happened to Wilcox and Collins?).

I can't imagine Melo playing this year, much less starting.  Same for next year unless he makes enough progress to be the 3rd string center instead of Collins.

I'm not sure how Wilcox, and KG will look together starting. Definitely undersized as a Center. Is he even recovered from heart surgery? Green had his much earlier than Wilcox, and he was recently cleared by the doctors.

Well Sullinger is even more undersized than Wilcox and you have him backing Melo up. Also, 6'10 is not undersized. It's only a little shorter (half an inch) than the league's best center. A fella who just went to the Lakers.

I see many skeptics here. I'm going against the grain here as you know. Screw it! I expect big things from our Rookies.

I have expectations for them as well, but keep them realistic.

I want to see Melo in the rotation as KG's backup by midseason and to be a paint protector by the time the playoffs roll around.  That would be the bonus for this team.  They don't need him to be the starter.

He doesn't have height necessarily, but Sullinger is a load inside. He has a strong lower body. Sullinger/Bass combination would work well because they are opposites. One is deadly mid-range shooter, the other is low-post scorer.

Here's my prediction: Melo will play more minutes in the NBDL this year than he does minutes in his first two NBA seasons combined.

I think THAT is a realistic prediction and shows you just how far away Melo is from playing for this team, never mind starting.

I'm guessing your theory is that KG will make up for any issues in Melo's game.  I kind of thought that if greg was back he could start and it would work out pretty well.
Melo well he would have to start over bass, wilcox, sully...did i forget anyone.  Melo is raw, good project but no way ready to play meaningful minutes much less start

It is. Fabulously, and completely out of realm of possibility. Even Jason Collins is likely to see more playing time than Fab Melo this season.
