My pet theory is that there's a 5% chance that Plax ends up in New England, but a 50% chance he either ends up back in the AFC East.  Maybe with the JETS; they need wideouts pretty badly (Cromartie might have been right).  Miami's also going to be looking for a veteran wideout pretty soon...

So, bring him in, see what he's got in the tank so you know how to prepare for him.

I think it is very telling that it is August 12th and no other team has really expressed much interest at all in Burress.  Especially the team that had him under contract last year and needs receivers.

Sure, he is still tall for potential red zone targets, but his speed seems to be completely gone.  I'm not sure 2012 Plaxico Burress is much of an upgrade over 2012 Deion Branch or 2012 Jabar Gaffney.  I think he is a liability and unlikely to be signed.  He hasn't caught a ball more than 35 yards downfield since 2007.  He has played 26 games since then.

The Patriots already have red zone targets and guys to work the middle of the field and guys to work zones.  All they really needed was a speed element and they got it with Lloyd.  Plaxico hasn't brought a speed element in a long time.  He doesn't fit on this roster at all.  And he doesn't play special teams.  What exactly does he bring to the table that the Pats don't already have?

If he is signed, this will probably be Chad Ochocinco, Joey Galloway, and Torry Holt all over again.

It's certainly intriguing.  I'm not quite sure where he fits with Lloyd, Welker, Gaffney, Stallworth, Branch, and Edelman already here.  But I like that Belichick isn't settling.

I'm guessing he's just doing due diligence in case someone gets injured at some point.

Is he much more then a Red Zone target at this point?  (mind you, that is not a terrible specialist to get)

He is the type of Vet they have signed in the past on defense.  Not the all around player that they used to be but still having one good skill that the team uses to it's max.

Pats will only sign Burress if there is a major injury bug that hits their current WRs, which is unlikely.

The probability that the Pats will sign an undrafted offensive lineman are higher than that the Pats will sign Burress.
