???

Because Stern isn't acting owner of the Magic.

He was of the Hornets at the time.

Please stop spreading this nonsense or at least put together some proof.

Stern found a deal he liked better for the Hornets.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
The league owned the Hornets, Jerry Buss owns the Lakers.

Huh?

He keeps saying this over and over on every thread. It makes less sense each time.  It is best to just ignore it, but I am too stubborn to ignore the nonsense.

Am I the first one to point out the 2nd reason - that Bynum wasn't involved in the CP3 trade?  It was Gasol and Odom.  Oh, and the league doesn't own the Magic.

Out of curiosity, anyone know who actually owned the Hornets?  Was it technically the league office, or the other 29 owners?  I think it was the latter because I remember Cuban griping up a storm when they got Carl Landry because it was costing him money.

Where specifically does it mention Cuban? Sounds more like a personal vice to me.

Owners may have complained, but there's no way Stern is going to do what Mark Cuban tells him to do.

Stern nixed the deal because it didn't serve the Hornets interests in rebuilding. He totally threw Demps under the bus doing it too.

two points and I will leave you alone since the article speaks for itself.

1. You will never prove that the owners input did not sway Stern. After all he was holding the team in trust for the owners. He had to do abide by their wish.

2. and more important of all. As a lawyer and corporate CEO with strict fidciciary duty to the owners of the team, his employers, he played a different role as Hornets CEO than he does as commissioner. As Hornets CEO he had to make  decisions that were best for the team. When he nixed the deal as owner it was just as if the owners nixed the deal themselves beacause Stern was acting as an AGENT of the owners.

On the other hand as commissioner he acts in the best interest of the League. When teams submit a deal to him he only reviews it to make sure it satifies the rules and regulations of the NBA. That is all he can do as commissioner he has to be nuetral and stay fair.

So there is a difference in his role as 'owner' and his role as Commissioner.

When he nixed the Chris Paul deal he was acting as an Owner not as Commissioner.

Stern couldn't have vetoed that infamous deal if the NBA didn't own the Hornets.  Lakers should feel lucky that the deal was nixed.  Small point guard, with some injury history, that would likely cost the max?  Was never excited with the idea.
