What the heck is Orlando gonna do with Pau?  I agree this sounds fishy, but it'd be cool if it went down.

I would be excited to see Iggy get out of Philly.  I love his game and would like to see him in a fresh situation.

I'm sure ORL could flip Gasol to Houston for a prospect or two and salary relief.

Which means their return on Dwight Howard would be Arron Afflalo + a couple mediocre prospects + a minor amount of cap relief (compared to the ability to dump their worst contracts).

Not a good trade for them.

Hey, didn't say it was good.

Personally, I have no faith in Orlando getting any sort of good return on Dwight. They're going to make a complete and utter hash of things.

I think Toronto might give them some talent and assets for Gasol.

If Toronto had much talent and assets . . . Remember they dealt their 1st away in the Kyle Lowry deal.

Losing the few remaining assets of a young lottery team to acquire a 32 year old big making 19 million wouldn't seem prudent.

Acquring Gasol makes them the 9th best team in the conference? 10th? For a short period of time and expensive money?

The fact they keep their pick if they make it to the Playoffs is a motivator to make a move for a guy like Gasol.

They have young talent they could move Gasol for in Bargs, Derozan, and Ross. They have a guy like Ed Davs and a nice expiring in Calderon.

Which would leave them with teams substantially worse than what Gasol played for in Memphis.  And more expensive.  And then Gasol leaves in two years and they have two years of expensively missing the playoffs and less young assets to show for it.

So the Lakers would give up a top 3 Center and a Top 3 Power forward, for the #1 Center, in a perimeter dominated league.

God I hope this happens.

Would be hilarious.

Seems like a lot of people have forgotten the fact that, prior to the injury and nightmare that unfolded, the Magic at one point were 32-18.

Through 50 games they were winning at a 64% clip.

That's playing with Ryan Anderson and the corpses of Jameer Nelson, JRich and Hedo.

Now take out those lifeless bodies and add in 2 future hall of famers...i think they might be on to something in LA.

I just don't get why they wouldn't just take Bynum straight up

I don't think Orlando would want to take Bynum and be stuck in the same situation, with a center who would be very likely to leave via free agency in a year.

My dream is that this deal falls through but all of this talk of trading Bynum makes him not want to sign an extension and he signs as a free agent next summer with a team that has cap space and the Lakers don't get anything for him, not even some crappy draft picks in a sign-and-trade.
I think Bynum is much more likely to sign long term in Orlando and there aren't going to be very many options for him next year that would be better especially with the new sign and trade rules.

I mean in what world is Gasol and Afflalo better than Bynum.  I mean that is massive money for guys that won't put you over the top.  At least with Bynum he is young, incredibly talented, and while he won't put you over the top, he also won't stick you in cap hell for awhile.  Bynum is absolutely the way to go if you are Orlando.

I think this one is better for Orlando and still a real possibility.

Lakers - Howard, Davis
Sixers - Bynum
Rockets - Gasol
Magic - Martin, Iggy, Patterson, Vucevic, Parsons

Gives the Magic younger players on better contracts and a lot more long term flexibility, but will still keep them competitive (which seems to be a goal).  Lakers just swap out Davis for Harrington, Sixers still get Bynum for essentially Iggy, and the Rockets get Gasol (who they like) and get to keep all of their current draft picks and give up Martin who is expiring anyway.

Orlando has to get picks and dump contracts in any deal. J Rich, Hedo. Those are two contracts I think Orlando has to jettison to move on any Dwight deal.

Sounds like a random pipe dream that somebody would make up on ESPN's trade machine.  Listening to Mike Gorman call olympic women's handball is much more entertaining than this never ending soap opera.

According to Sam Amick, Sports Illustrated, Orlando would actually prefer the Rockets offer.

Don't think there would be any possible deal, that make sense for us, to bring Gasol to Boston. The hard cap makes that basically impossible unless we wait until signed FA can be traded.

Patterson, Parsons, and Vucevic are essentially picks, and they did move Davis in the trade I proposed.

Orlando has virtually no leverage, they are no longer at the point where they can make a team take on a really bad contract.

Not really. As long as teams like Houston are offering to take on bad contracts and give up young assets for Howard, which they still are, then the magic do have leverage with teams like the lakers.

Leave it to the Lakers to find a Howard trade that screws us as much as possible.  I mean specifically Bynum to our division rivals the 76ers. SMH.  Denver and the Sixers get better, and it may not suck for Orlando not sure

makes no sense for Orlando. unless they are getting a crapload of picks from all of these teams. I'm sure they will get more than the Brooklyn deal.

like others have mentioned, Howard for straight up gasol and Bynum , makes more sense. Even then Lakers will have to include a couple of firsts

Before I do such a trade, I have to lock up Bynum to at least a 5 year deal. I would play gasol until the trade deadline and see how he plays away from kobe. If he doesn't play as good as you thought, you still can get some decent pieces for him at that point.
