Cleve:

I've asked it like 3 times, and i'm about to make it 4...

Why did you decide ultimately that Carmelo could not be used as a starting power-forward next to Bogut?

Why is starting Melo at the 3 next to Ty Thomas a better option than Melo at the 4 next to Brandon Roy, TMac, or Perry Jones?

I offered Pierce and Young for Melo and Ty Thomas (then thought better of it) with just that thought in mind.

Holiday
Wade
Parsons
Melo
Bosh

As a starting unit. Defensively it'd be a tough sell, but offensively it's gotta be the best in the league.

Man that would have been terrible for you.  Too bad you didn't pull the trigger.

It was a pretty funny exchange.

Me: offer
Yoki: sorry, no
Me: actually I don't like it either. But I think you missed a huge opportunity here.
Yoki: that all makes sense, but no
Me: no, you don't understand, I'm not reoffering it, I'm telling you why you should've taken it.
Yoki: I like Melo.

There were actually a few of those trades where someone saved me by not taking my persistent offers. I offered 3.1, 4.1, 7 for Boogie Cousins a 5th and a 10th to pair with Wade and when I had him Duncan. Offered Young/Jack for Ellis/Brewer.

Lotta near misses because someone didnt wanna pull the trigger at the gun I offered them trained at my head. Holiday/Bosh for Billups/Bynum...

Yeah, we made some bad trade offers (for our team) that people rejected.  Luckily for us, folks fell in love with their players, saving us from some mistakes.  (No details, though.)

I think people are really sleeping on the Pacers here. Out of self-interest I don't think they'll be consistently good enough to rake together 60 wins but they've got:

1) a well structured team with clearly defined roles that dont demand too much of thier players

2) a great mix of youth and experience and zero bad lockerroom guys, so motivation and chemistry should be great.

3) great depth for the potential to be elite, depending on Beal/Kanter.

If they werent so good now, they'd be the TOTF.

Had a little time to mess around with 2k12 tonight. Just did the Bulls, and was a little haphazard with how I assembled the roster (like Rose and Gibson to the Heat for Wade and Bosh, boozer to Cs for KG, stuff like that), and I made Alexey Shved and Jeremy Lamb as best I could with both guys ending up around a 65.

Theyre a lot of fun to work with. 2 most popular plays are Holiday to Pierce off of screens, with Bosh ending up in position to set the pick or take the dump-down, or Wade-Bosh combo in isolation. Really fun to see it all come together, no matter how pixelated.

IP, am I reading the numbers right? Jack played only 2% of NO's available minutes at SG last season?

I know he played alongside CP3 the season before that, and while he out-PERed his opponent, it wasn't by a huge margin. Are there other stats that bear out his elite play at SG?

Not 2% of his minutes, 2% of the available minutes.

And he played 11% of the available minutes there the year before. The previous year it was less pronounced, still impressive.

Yes, 2% of NO's available minutes at the SG.

So, assuming 48 minutes a game over the course of the 66-game season, Jack played 63.5 minutes at SG last season, or an average of about one minute per game, if my math is right.

48 x 66 x .02 = 63.36

Ah, but he only played in 45 games. Its about a minute-thirty per game, dummy.

All jokes aside, Jack started, played big minutes at the point. When they had a better point guard, he backed up Paul, and played the two.

You're right, its not as pronounced as this season, but its still pretty impressive. Jack playing at the 2 was one of the Hornets' most effective lineups, and you can see that two by the fact that Jack played in 31% of New Orleans' clutch lineups in 2011, despite not being a lights out shooter at 2. He was their best stopper at the 2.

Is that really saying much when you're playing on a roster full of D Leaguers?

Kane have you actually looked at what usage is among point guards? Holiday ranks near the bottom.

And, of I'm not mistaken, Jack defended 1s better this season, and he outpaced Hollinger's projections for him with his effiCency and his offense. The guy had like a 18 PER, and managed to be the best player on his team for the majority of the year.

What more do you want out of my backup point guard and shooting guard?

IP is it that hard to be the best player on the hornets? Kaman was benches, okafor was benched, and Gordon played like five games. He's cool as a backup. I said that in another post where I referenced he and young. He's no game changer though. He's jarrett jack who gets dealt every year. No real contender has ever wanted him.

To sell him as some guy who puts you over the top is something I will call out.

I think it be cool to see a simulation of a season and playoffs with the cb league rosters.

We tried that one year, and the results were crazily out of whack.

D. Wade is a jerk:

That's just a crappy way to handle that situation.  Sarcasm and mockery?  Towards some excited kid?

In the past year, Wade has gone from a guy I respected the heck out of to one of the biggest jerks in sports, between his personal life and the repeated dirty plays on the court and now stuff like this.

Weak sauce, man.

Ha.  I'm sure Wade's PR people will be on this, and the kid will have a new pair of shoes forthcoming.  It's still a [jerk] way of handling things.

And MJ's "flight school" is a joke, too.

EDIT:  Dwight Howard is a jerk, too:  http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/dwight-howard-basketball-camp-orlando-magic-152443142--nba.html

I hate the NBA.

I think whats more appropriate is, I hate NBA Stars.

Average players don't do stuff like this.  I mean Kyle lowry owns a juice business for crying out loud, he is a man of the people!

Oh wow. I wildly disagree with that. I think the pacers are a good team, but Bradley's shoulder isn't going to be right until what, Jan? That alone guarantees a mixed bag of wins. This is 'regular season' rankings.

'puts me over the top'? When have I ever said Jarret Jack puts me over the top? He's a useful part of my rotation.

And it is pretty hard to be the top player on any NBA team. On your own team for instance, you say you're going to play DJ Augustine as an important part of your rotation, a guy whose skillsets you'll use to give teams another look out there.

DJ Augustine wasn't even the best player on the bobcats last year.

Jarret Jack is coming off his best year, and I'm gonna play the guy. And it's a good move.
