This has taken too much time, could there be health concerns ? We could not possibly know, but i'm getting worried it's the heart again.

According to David Falk, it has to do with specific contract language.

My random, ill-informed, total guess?  The language allows some part of the deal to be non-guaranteed if Green has further heart issues, and the sides are trying to determine exactly what falls under a "heart issue".

That could be totally off-base, and you almost never see deals like that in the NBA.  However, I've seen negotiations like that in baseball a few times, and it wouldn't surprise me if that's what's happening here.

NFL has those sort fo deals too, Peyton Manning has a clause relating to his neck in his contract.

its obviously cause we're using him to trade for D12  :D
nah but seriously I'm not too concerned about his heart being an constant nagging issue w/ jeff, I'm pretty confident he'll return to his productive self from his thunder days and then some. thats prolly more hope than confidence but whatever lol

Perhaps it could be a combination of both the weighting of the money in the deal and his heart issue clause?

Ainge might want the contract amount to increase year by year aswell as having a get-out clause for heart problems, and green's agent might want the deal to be spread evenly amongst the years so if there is another health issue/scare in the 2nd or 3rd year of the deal, they are still well compensated for the time of the contract that was honored.

Here's CSNE's story on it:

Quote
he usual hang-ups in these kind of deals -- dollars and guaranteed years -- don't appear to be factors.

Green's new contract is expected to be a four-year deal worth $36 million.

Apparently the snafu right now is the contract's language, which multiple league sources said on Wednesday should not stand in the way of this deal eventually becoming official.

"I'm not going to talk about what the holdup is," Danny Ainge, Boston's president of basketball operations, told CSNNE.com. "But we're involved in a negotiation that I think will get resolved soon."

Throughout the free agency process, Green's agent David Falk has reiterated that Boston has been his client's first choice.

"It's been a mutual love affair," Falk said. "They love having him here. He loves being here."

seems like a very good guess

Another reason might be that, while he is "cleared" to begin some basketball activities, he hasn't yet been given a 100% clean bill of health, perhaps due to his surgeon liking his patients to get a certain number of days past the surgery before doing so.  180 days is a typical number, but so are slightly longer numbers from 200-240.  If this is the case, the C's and Green might certainly have agreed on a deal in principle, but it's being held up waiting for the final go-ahead from the doctor.  The hold-up might not even be Danny (it could, but it might not), and perhaps be an insurance company.

But the Celtics and Green are pretty much wedded to each other now, because even if Green could have gotten more money, whatever team that was going to give it to him has already spent it.  And the Celtics have only the bi-annual to spend whether or not they sign Green.  So this deal gets done, even if we have to wait another month.

Yeah, which makes me think that both sides are getting feedback from doctor's over language protecting the C's if heart issues arise again.

Both sides are likely getting outside opinions from highly paid specialists (who are busy to boot) about each proposed revision as they negotiate it.

Wow..I pray that he gets a clean bill of health and everything is finalized.

But if he isn't cleared....what does this mean for BOS?

Means we're kind of screwed for the SF position, and since we have nothing left but the BAE, and we can't have Sasha back this year due to a trade, I hope you like 'Quis.

I am not worried.   I think it's contractual stuff but I could be wrong.

Yeah..I'm hoping for the best. I wouldn't mind Quis, though.

Depending upon how much traction this speculation has, I'd hope that BOS keeps Quis nearby and ready.
