Face it

Lee is now in green. I'm more than happy with that.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I was very happy to have Ray while he was here, but now was probably the time to move on and look to the future.

When Jermaine O'Neal signed with us, it was assumed that he took an enormous paycut. He was the 2nd best player on the 4th seed Miami Heat. We all know how the next two years played out. I don't want to see Ray injured, but I sure don't want to see him flourish in the Heat system.

It's all relative. What does "Ray Allen is better" even mean? Better how?

We're comparing apples and oranges. We as a forum can't come to a consensus about anything, let alone which of 2 players (that we have strong feelings about) is "better."

Agree with the sentiment "Lee is a better fit for our system." Think this holds true to a large degree on both ends of the court. That's all that matters, isn't it?

Can Ray fill it up to a larger degree than Lee? Yeah. But now we can run on offense. We have a chance to be a high volume scoring team, finally!... not Wisconsin of the NBA with a sniper with gimpy feet.

I think Ray is better, but Lee is cheaper and younger, and who knows how Ray will decline in upcoming years.

Lee also will come of the bench without a complaint. He understands his place. Terry, Ray, Lee -- none of these guys are the focus of our team. Green could easily end up more essential than any of these guys this season. All three of them could have ended games on the bench for the Celts this season if Bradley is in for defensive reasons. I'm not sure that any of this is that dramatic at this point.

This thread will probably be 125 pages long before either player plays even a second of basketball with his new team.

like others have said, ray allen has deteriorated to being a one-dimensional player. a one trick pony.

People need to get real. Saying Courtney Lee could be better than Ray Allen is a stretch. Lee has done nothing to suggest that he is a Hall of Fame caliber player let alone an All-Star caliber player. He is a solid NBA player. Ray Allen has averaged 20ppg over 15+ seasons in the NBA and has a career 45% fg avg. and 40% 3p avg.
Courtney Lee's percentages are promising; but he is not a volume scorer (career avg. 10 ppg).

I hope he has alot more to show us and may be a better fit in the long run; but we lost one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA. Danny has done a great job replacing him with JET and Lee. Just hoping we can figure out how to use the flexibility that we have with this lineup.

Hahahahahaa. Buddy, Ray 3 years ago would be > Courtney. Ray on the bench in the 2011-2012 season < Courtney Lee. Lee will be able to knock down shots AND play some defense. Let's get real time to stop living in the past

We're talking about right now right? Lee is better.

Ray is a much more respected shoote, but that's all he is right now. Lee could do more on both ends of the floor.

Funny thing is, the majority of this forum thinks Avery Bradley is better than Ray Allen.  Same thing, right?   Lee has had more quality basketball than Bradley.

Ray Allen can't defend, finish, handle the ball, run a pick and roll, or get it through his head that he's not supposed to throw cross court passes. Also, the offensive sets they ran for him took the offense completely ended the flow of the game.

Courtney Lee isn't the player Ray Allen USED to be, but the Celtics aren't convinced that he is. They aren't going to feel pressure to run sets for Lee. They will have more shots given to Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, and Paul Pierce. Oh and by the way... Courtney Lee is a real good defender, he's not going to mess up the defense and get yelled at by the whole team. (yes that happened to Ray).

I really don't care about Ray Allen's 3PT percentage, I care more about how bad the team played in stretches when he was on the floor.

Enough.

At this stage of Ray's career and for the Celtics, I'd much rather have the combination of Lee's defense and shooting.  If I was Miami and I already had Lebron and Wade flanked by a bunch of defenders/shooters, I'd preferred Ray as a lethal spotup shooter but the Celtics need more versatility and two-way play than Miami does.

Who the hell cares. Stop nagging, crying, and Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing about Ray Allen. It is what it is. All that matters is that we have a promising, young, talented player in Courtney Lee. Could you say the same about Ray? I don't think so.
