It seems the Jet will be the primary backup. He's the best option.

If Rondo plays 30-35 a game (36 or less hopefully), that leaves about 10-15 for the Jet.

Would you be comfortable with that? Can he do that?

Yes, but it'll be more of a combined effort between him and Bradley, with Jet taking most of the ball-handling responsibilities when together.

Yes -- best way to utilize Terry and Bradley.

Throwing another PG into the mix for regular backup minutes would cause more problems than solutions.

I'd have no issues.  You're talking limited minutes at the PG position and he's more than capable.

As others have said, I'm more than comfortable, especially since Rondo will be playing at least 35 mpg in the regular season and 40 mpg in the playoffs.  It's not a lot of time.

And there's not like we have another choice.  There's already a huge jam for minutes at the 2/3 spots, so it's not like playing Terry solely at the 2 is even an option.

I thought this was the plan from the moment we signed Terry.  Jet plays ~10 mpg at PG and 10-15 at SG.  Two birds with one stone, ya know?
AB getting hurt makes this slightly less legitimate, because Jet will likely have to play more minutes at SG (at the start of the year) than we planned.  It's a good thing we snagged Courtney Lee, who can give us 30 mpg while Bradley's out and 20 mpg when AB's back.  And Dooling should be back as a backup PG while AB's gone but when AB's back to playing 20 mpg Dooling will be relegated to nothing but a depth option.
So while I don't think Jet should be our only PG backup, I think he will be the only one who plays when it matters.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Not a problem. He'll be like Eddie House, but 3 inches taller with actual ball handling skills. 13 minutes behind round and another 5 or so next to him sounds good to me.

Bradley did OK as the backup PG last year, as well.  Seemed to be fine, as long as Pierce was out there to help out a bit.  I'd like to see Dooling back, but we should be OK with JET and AB getting most of the PT behind Rondo.  JET's got to be a better ballhander than Ray Allen!

Cool results of the poll. there has been constant jibber jabber that Terry can't play the point but as is often the case with these polls, there is a silent smart majority on the blog that watches a lot of games. I was about to write that Im now truly embarrassed for everyone who thinks Terry can't play point but the poll is a landslide. End of discussion
