If Pierce gets hurt, we're going to be struggling for production from the SF spot outside of Jeff Green.
And if Rondo gets hurt, we're going to be strugging for production from the entire team. Therefore, we need to trade for Chris Paul now...

If Rondo gets hurt, we've got players with point guard experience who can man the position (JET, Bradley when healthy, and probably Dooling).  Those are all legit NBA players, guys who have played in big games.

If Pierce gets hurt, we've got *one* other guy on the team who has logged any meaningful time at small forward.

You see to think that Courtney Lee will be fine at small forward; I don't.  And, I'm also not counting on ANY contributions from the rookie second-rounder.

There's three spots to use.  Two, if/when Dooling returns.  One, if you count Joseph.  Why wouldn't you go for someone who can fill in the one roster spot where we're only two-deep right now?

Even though Lee has played sparse minutes at the SF position in his career, if we have been able to get away with playing Ray Allen at SF, I don't see why we couldn't play Lee there.  If either Pierce/Green miss time, we'll basically just being going with a 3-guard bench set.  It won't be the 1st time the C's have done this in the last few years.

Here's a few of the SG's who have filled in at SF: T Allen, R Allen, Daniels, Pietrus.  None of them are true SF's.

I consider Avery to be a SG. Him at the point, is Deer in Headlight mode all over again. Until he shows some sort of competence at running the offense, I will be in a fetal position when he's not on the floor with a good ball handler.

Losing three players from the same position, Pietrus, Daniels, and Pavlovic I think limits our versatility. Joseph replaces one of them, but he isnt ready to play a lot.

I would go after Carlos Delfino first, then make Pietrus and Christmas my 2nd and 3rd options.

Dooling is 13

14 should be Pietrus or Delfino, the latter is actually quite good and underrated. I'm feeling we Will get Delfino.
15 should be a big, i'm not sold on Christmas,he Will be 26 soon and hasn't stepped court in the NBA yet, same for Joseph. If we can get Birdman for the biannual we are perfect.

I expect there will be times during the season when we see Terry, Bradley & Lee on the court at the same time.

Are people really overly worried that sort of line-up wouldn't work for at least short stretches?

To me, I want JET off the ball..not the back up point..Dooling could be a cheap back up that knows the system..

i would rather have pietrus than christmas..but he won't take the BAE...and really..i think they feel joseph can do the same things, is younger and cheaper

i think christmas beats out smith and the roster is set...i also expect melo, christmas and joseph to all spend time in the D league

What makes you think we'll get Delfino?   I agree that he'd be ideal.  Another depth player.

Also agree that the last spot should be big.  Give us a little more versatlilty at the 5.  I like Wilcox, but he is limited. And Collins is also very limited.  Darko doesn't bring much either, but can provide 5-10 minutes of big body and some defese (like Collins).  Birdman brings energy and rebounding.  I'd take either one -- or keep the spot open and see what emerges through buyouts/trades during the season.

If you sub in Rondo for either JET or AB, in short stretches I wouldn't mind those guys occasionally on the floor together.

As one of the primary lineups, in the event of a Pierce (or Green) injury?  I wouldn't want to HAVE to put that lineup out there.  If Miami is playing LeBron at the 3 (Rashard at the 4, Bosh at the 5), do you want Lee (giving up three inches and 50 pounds) to be the one having to defend him?  Or does Bass take LeBron, and Lee has to check 6'10" Rashard?

I don't mind the idea of Lee playing occasional minutes at the "SF" in a three-guard lineup; I really dislike the idea that we'll be *forced* to play a three-guard lineup if Pierce or Green miss any time.

I agree with you on the big for number 14, but #15 should be the best of Christmas, Joseph, or whoever else wins the battle at camp.  If roster spots #14 and #15 are seeing a lot of playing time, then you've already lost.  Much better to have players to develop in Portland to be potentially useful next year.  And whoever that last spot is, I hope they're signed to a non-guaranteed deal so we don't lose them before having early Bird rights a la Stiemsma.

The problem with this line of thinking is that we already don't have enough minutes for Bradley and Lee at the 2 guard spot, and that's not even counting playing Terry there sometimes.

I'm sure we'll see Rondo and Terry play together for a few minutes a game, but with the minutes crunch in the backcourt, Terry will have to play all the backup PG minutes.

The only exception to this may be early in the season if Bradley misses extended time.  If that's the case, I expect Dooling to get some run at the 1 with Terry getting more time at the 2.

But that will all go away once/if Rondo, Bradley, Lee, and Terry are all healthy at the same time.

What about if KG gets hurt... Can Bass carry us all the way? I dont think so.. still need to find another option if KG gets hurt..

If KG gets hurt for an extended period of time, no #18. That's why Doc has to limit him during the regular season.
