Christmas has an all around game and does a bit of everything.  He's dynamic and makes things happen.  I hope he makes the squad.

The hard cap for us this season changes things. We can't just take flyers on guys cause they are cheap and just cut them for another vet min guy as need be.

A miscalculation now (even with a $500K contract) can now prevent us from signing someone midseason, like DA has done just about every season.

I can maybe see one making it, but definitely not both.

I think the new Cba being a huge deal in roster construction is a huge deal, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. KuJo is signed for half a million, and a non-guaranteed contract to Christmas is hardly going to hobble the Cs moves, especially when neither is likely going to mean the difference between offering a vet min (or BAE, we haven't used that yet either yet, right?) contract in January.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Give me Joseph every time.
Guy could be a starter in the NBA. Christmas could NEVER be a starter in the NBA.

I like Christmas better than Smith, but I think Joseph has more upside.   Christmas is tough though.

No way. Totally disagree but I like what both of them bring. I say give them the two roster spots on non-guaranteed deals and if you want to upgrade move them at the deadline.

Since it doesn't seem that the team has any other huge needs to be filled, I wouldn't be surprised to see both players make the squad (along with Dooling).  The best course of action may be to leave the BAE intact for mid-season waiver signings, and to leave a little bit of extra room under the $74M figure to help facilitate any future trades or mid-season signings.  I do think they need Dooling.  Both Christmas and Joseph have looked good, and both would be cheap practice guys/low-level prospects to stash at the end of the bench.

This.

Joseph could someday be molded to become a lockdown defender at 2 and 3 and still contribute significantly at the other end.

Neither please. Two open roster spots and give them to proven NBA veteran players.

According to Larry Coon, rookies earning below $854k are charged that amount against the $74.3 million hard cap (i.e., the apron).  Right now (counting Joseph) we're at about $71 million.

That means that even taking flyers on guys can indeed limit our flexibility at this stage.

As many have said, Kris Joseph any day. We may be wearing green tinted glasses but no one is joking when they say his game bears resemblance to P2's. The kid's a baller and a great mental fit for this team. I like Christmas as well but in terms of talent and promise, I'm still going with Joseph if we have to choose one. Christmas, however, I'd still welcome to see in camp and if he joins the Red Claws that'd be fantastic. Only, though, if it's under the name of Maine's organization and not on the books of the Celtics.

Well Joseph and probably Christmas will be at training camp and that will be the true test.  I can picture Christmas being the type of player who's hunger and desire would be a good thing for the locker room.  He seems like the type of person who will work his butt off to get a shot at cracking the rotation, and I think that kind of healthy rivalry amongst the players would be a good thing since it would raise the level of competition.  We'll see what Danny thinks is best for the team once training camp is wrapped up.
